ABOUT THE COMPANY
GIZ, the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, provides services in the field of international technical cooperation worldwide. In Kenya, it has been active since 1964, and up to now implements programs in a wide variety of areas, including economic development, green energy and water, governance, food security, and peace and security. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is GIZ’s main commissioning party. However, GIZ as well works closely with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade.
JOB SUMMARY
Perform Internal Controls as per GIZ guidelines in Kenya and Somalia and offer assurance to management on the effectiveness of internal controls and risk mitigating measures. Additionally, advising management on the level of compliance with internal policies, rules & processes, statutory and regulatory requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Principal Duties, Responsibilities and Standards of performanceDeveloping a comprehensive Internal control plan to cover all the activities of GIZ Kenya and Somalia.Carry out Internal controls in GIZ offices according to the set internal and external standards including reporting as per company guidelinesConducting timely risk-based internal controls and advising management on all internal control matters.Reviewing and advising management on the risk management framework.Reviewing the economic efficiency and effectiveness in the utilization of resources so that objectives of the country office are achieved.Providing practical solutions to improve overall efficiencies and enhance internal controls.Monitoring the level of compliance with laws, regulations, policies, processes and rules.Conducting investigations on suspected internal fraud and corruptionProactively keeping management aware of emerging trends regarding internal controls, risk management and internal auditing.Liaising with internal auditors when office audits are undertaken.Other dutiesUpdating the commercial and administration crisis plan jointly with all HODs.Performs other duties and tasks at per request of management.B. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required for this PositionSkills in oral and written communication, long and short-term planning, familiarity with a wide range of finance /accounting systems and financial analysis.Good analytical and reporting skills.Very good written and spoken EnglishHigh integrity and honesty.C. Minimum Academic & Professional Qualifications, ExperiencePossess a bachelor’s degree preferably in Commerce (Accounting) or equivalent.Proven practical experience in conducting investigations in regard to fraudulent acts, suspected misuse of funds etc.Master’s degree in finance or a business-related field will be an added advantage.Holder of CPA (K) and a member of ICPAK will be an added advantageMembership to the Institute of Internal Auditors or Certified Fraud examiners (CFE) will be an added advantage.Minimum five (5) years’ relevant experience in a reputable audit firm.Experience of carrying out assignments in fragile countries will be an added advantage.Hands on experience with MS Office packages.Submission of Application:Duty Station: NairobiDuration of Assignment: Until 31.12.2026Vacancy Reference Number: GIZ/CO/12/02/2026Equal Employment OpportunityAt GIZ Kenya, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace.
