Job descriptions & requirements

Key Responsibilities

Joining and edge fabrication

  • •         Read job cards, templates and drawings to confirm dimensions, edge profiles and joint positions before starting.
  • •         Prepare 45-degree mitres on sintered stone and quartz for corner joints, waterfalls and returns.
  • •         Build double-lipped (laminated) edges by bonding and aligning strips to the top at 45 degrees, keeping thickness and flatness consistent.
  • •         Mix and apply adhesives and colour-matched resin; clamp, level and align pieces so seams are tight and flush.
  • •         Remove excess adhesive and fill gaps or minor chips without affecting the surface.

Polishing and finishing

  • •         Grind and polish joints, mitred edges and lipped edges using hand polishers and progressive diamond pads.
  • •         Match the finish of the slab (polished, honed or matt) so joints blend in.
  • •         Inspect every piece under good light for scratches, chips, burn marks and uneven seams, and rework as needed.

Workshop duties

  • •         Handle slabs and finished pieces carefully, using lifting aids, A-frames and trolleys, with a partner when required.
  • •         Keep tools, pads, blades and clamps clean, organised and in working order; report damaged or worn equipment.
  • •         Record material used and report offcuts, damages and shortages to the supervisor.
  • •         Meet agreed daily and weekly production targets and delivery deadlines.
  • •         Support cutters, installers and other team members when workload requires.
  • Requirements

Essential

  • •         At least 1 years of hands-on experience in countertop joinery, stone or quartz fabrication, or a similar workshop trade.
  • •         Proven ability to join accurate 45-degree mitres and build double-lipped edges.
  • •         Experience polishing stone, quartz or sintered stone with hand polishers and diamond pads.
  • •         Good eye for detail: tight seams, flush joints, consistent edge thickness and colour matching.
  • •         Able to read measurements, templates and job cards, and use a tape measure, square and level accurately.
  • •         Physically fit and able to lift, carry and work on your feet for long periods (with lifting aids and team support).
  • •         Reliable, punctual and able to work to deadlines.

Preferred

  • •         Direct experience with sintered stone and its handling requirements.
  • •         Training or certificate in joinery, carpentry, masonry or stone fabrication from a technical institute.
  • •         Ability to train and guide junior workshop assistants.

Personal qualities

  • •         Patient, careful and committed to quality.
  • •         Honest about mistakes and willing to fix them quickly.
  • •         Works well in a team and follows safety rules without being reminded.
  • Safety and Quality Standards
  • •         Wear the required PPE at all times: dust mask or respirator, safety glasses, ear protection, gloves and safety boots. Silica dust from sintered stone and quartz is a serious health hazard.
  • •         Use wet-cutting and wet-polishing methods or dust extraction wherever possible.
  • •         Use adhesives, resins and solvents only as instructed, with proper ventilation.
  • •         Lift slabs correctly and never attempt heavy lifts alone.
  • •         Check each finished piece against the job card before it leaves the workshop; no piece is released with visible chips, gaps or uneven polish.
  • •         Report accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions immediately.
  •

To apply, send your CV, a short description of your joinery and polishing experience. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to do a practical test: a 45-degree mitre joint, a double-lipped edge and a polished finish.
