The Landfill Attendant is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of landfill activities to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant waste disposal. The role ensures adherence to environmental regulations, operational standards, and health and safety requirements.

NATURE OF JOB: CONTRACT

SALARY: KSHS. 83,000 (TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATION COVERED)

JOB LOCATION: SEYCHELLES


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily waste reception, inspection, placement, and compaction activities.
  • Direct on-site traffic to ensure safe and efficient unloading operations.
  • Ensure only approved waste types are accepted and properly managed.


Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure landfill operations comply with environmental permits and regulations.
  • Monitor leachate, drainage, and landfill gas control systems.
  • Report and address environmental incidents or non-compliance issues promptly.


Health & Safety

  • Enforce site safety protocols and proper use of PPE.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and hazard identification.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture among staff and contractors.


Supervision & Coordination

  • Supervise landfill workers and equipment operators on site.
  • Coordinate daily activities with contractors and waste collection teams.
  • Maintain accurate daily operational logs and reports.


Equipment & Site Maintenance

  • Monitor the condition and safe operation of landfill machinery.
  • Coordinate routine equipment maintenance and report faults.
  • Ensure site infrastructure (signage, fencing, access points) is maintained.


KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or Certificate in Environmental Management, Waste Management, Civil
  • Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Relevant vocational training in heavy equipment operation is an advantage.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in landfill operations, waste management, or related field.
  • Experience supervising operational teams is preferred.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance requirements and safety regulations.
