Reports To: Warehouse Supervisor / Operations Manager
1. Job Purpose
To safely and efficiently operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move, load, and unload goods within the warehouse or worksite. The Forklift Operator ensures proper handling of materials, maintains equipment in good condition, and supports overall warehouse operations.
2. Key Responsibilities
Material Handling and Operations
- Operate forklifts to load, unload, move, and stack materials safely.
- Transport goods to designated storage areas, loading bays, or production lines.
- Ensure proper placement and stacking of goods to prevent damage.
Loading and Unloading
- Load and offload goods from trucks, containers, and storage areas.
- Verify items against delivery notes and ensure accuracy in quantities.
- Handle fragile or sensitive goods with care to prevent losses.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Conduct daily inspections of the forklift before use (fuel, brakes, tires, controls).
- Report any faults, damages, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure the forklift is kept clean and in good working condition.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to workplace health and safety regulations at all times.
- Follow proper lifting and handling procedures to avoid accidents.
- Ensure safe operation within designated speed limits and pathways.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Inventory and Documentation
- Assist in stock-taking and inventory control processes.
- Maintain accurate records of goods moved and handled.
- Support documentation related to dispatch and receiving activities.
Teamwork and Operational Support
- Work closely with warehouse staff, supervisors, and logistics teams.
- Assist in general warehouse duties when required.
- Support efficient workflow and timely order fulfillment.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy in loading and unloading operations
- Number of incidents/accidents reported
- Equipment uptime and maintenance compliance
- Timeliness in material movement
- Inventory handling accuracy
3. Qualifications
- Valid forklift operator license/certification
- Minimum of 1–3years experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or industrial setting
- Basic understanding of warehouse operations and safety procedures
- KCSE certificate or equivalent (added advantage)
4. Skills and Competencies
- Strong attention to detail
- Good hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
- Ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Good communication and teamwork skills
