Operations Officer
Job summary
The field operations officer will be in charge of yard operations, fleet and equipment repair & maintenance, outbound logistics (Disposal to dumpsite), fleet fueling and pump services. He ensures that all the safety rules and regulations have been followed. Ensure that the yard is properly managed efficiently.
Job descriptions & requirements
1. Strategic Planning & Process Optimization
- SOP Development: Formulate and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline workflows and ensure operational consistency.
- Performance Management: Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics; conduct regular performance appraisals and implement data-driven improvement plans.
- Logistical Mapping: Design and optimize collection routes and mapping strategies to maximize fuel efficiency and service coverage.
- Resource Budgeting: Develop and manage weekly operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of fuel, labour, and overheads.
2. Team Leadership & Human Capital Management
- Supervision: Lead and oversee the daily activities of the operations team, including programmers, drivers, loaders, and yard maintenance staff.
- Workforce Planning: Manage the requisition, onboarding, and deployment of casual labour to meet fluctuating operational demands.
- Capacity Building: Conduct regular training sessions to enhance staff technical skills, safety awareness, and operational efficiency.
3. Fleet & Asset Management
- Fleet Oversight: Coordinate vehicle allocation, schedule routine maintenance, and conduct rigorous inspections to ensure fleet roadworthiness and longevity.
- Productivity Accountability: Monitor and report on route productivity, ensuring 100% accountability for time-on-road and vehicle utilization.
4. Yard Operations & Waste Recovery
- Recovery Optimization: Supervise waste sorting processes to achieve and exceed a recovery target of >60% across various waste streams.
- Inventory & Documentation: Ensure yard operations are systematically organized, with all recyclables and waste transfers accurately documented and stored.
- Disposal Management: Coordinate tipping activities at designated sites while ensuring associated costs remain within the approved budgetary framework.
5. Quality Assurance & Client Relations
- Service Excellence: Perform regular quality assurance (QA) inspections at client sites to ensure service delivery aligns with contractual agreements.
- Sustainability Partnership: Collaborate with clients to integrate and implement sustainability and circular economy principles within their waste management cycle.
- Business Development Support: Identify and submit business leads and waste profiling data to the sales team to facilitate revenue growth.
6. Risk Management & Compliance
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards and ensure all operations comply with national and local regulatory requirements.
- Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify operational risks and implement mitigation measures to protect personnel and company assets.
