A reputable and renowned specialist dental clinic in Nairobi is seeking to recruit a highly skilled, professional, and patient-centered Dental Theatre Nurse to join our growing clinical team.


 


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse with a background in dental nursing, perioperative/theatre nursing, or both, to work in a modern, fast-paced specialist dental environment committed to clinical excellence and outstanding patient care.


 


The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting advanced dental and oral surgical procedures, maintaining the highest standards of theatre practice, infection prevention, patient safety, and peri-operative nursing care.


 


 


Key Responsibilities


 



  1. Prepare and maintain the dental theatre and treatment rooms in accordance with established infection prevention and sterilization protocols.
  2. Assist dentists and oral surgeons during complex dental and surgical procedures including:


  - Dental implants


  - Surgical extractions


  - Oral surgery procedures


  - Sedation procedures


  - Restorative and cosmetic dental procedures


- Perform scrub nurse and circulating nurse duties during theatre procedures.



  1. Ensure all surgical instruments, materials, and equipment are sterile, functional, and appropriately prepared before procedures.
  2. Monitor patients pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  3. Maintain accurate nursing notes, patient records, theatre documentation, and stock records.
  4. Support emergency response protocols and ensure readiness of emergency equipment and medications.
  5. Uphold strict infection prevention and control (IPC) standards in compliance with Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) guidelines and public health regulations.
  6. Coordinate effectively with dentists, anaesthetic support teams, and other clinical staff to ensure smooth theatre operations.
  7. Provide patient education and reassurance before and after procedures.
  8. Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, audits, and clinical training activities.


 


Qualifications & Requirements


 



  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  2. Valid registration and current practicing licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
  3. Higher Diploma or certification in Perioperative/Theatre Nursing will be an added advantage.
  4. Minimum of 6 years’ nursing experience, with at least 2 years’ experience in theatre/perioperative nursing.
  5. Experience in a dental clinic, dental theatre, maxillofacial unit, surgical theatre, or operating theatre environment is highly desirable.
  6. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  7. ACLS certification will be an added advantage.
  8. Strong knowledge of theatre protocols, sterile techniques, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
  9. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  10. Ability to work calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  11. High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
