Job descriptions & requirements

Company Description Jumba Ruins Monsoon is a beachfront restaurant set in serene, uncrowded surroundings along the Kenyan coast, with tables right by the sand and the sound of the waves. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, with guests often spending the entire day enjoying the setting, fresh seafood, and ocean views. Known as a hidden gem, the restaurant attracts business professionals, local residents, and expatriate families who frequently book in advance. The menu is more elaborate than many nearby seafood spots, featuring specialties such as deep-fried oysters, lobster with seafood pasta, and grilled octopus in garlic butter, complemented by a strong wine selection.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Restaurant Waitress role based in Mombasa County, Kenya. The Restaurant Waitress will welcome guests, present menus, take food and beverage orders, and provide attentive table service throughout the dining experience. Responsibilities include serving dishes and drinks, explaining menu items and specials, handling guest questions or concerns, and ensuring that tables and service areas remain clean and well-organized. The role also involves coordinating with the kitchen and bar teams, processing payments accurately, and supporting a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that reflects the restaurant’s beachfront setting.
Qualifications

  • Strong customer service skills, with a friendly and professional approach to guests.
  • Experience or familiarity with food & beverage and food service operations, ideally in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
  • Clear verbal communication skills to explain menu items, take accurate orders, and liaise with kitchen staff.
  • Basic understanding of cooking or food preparation concepts is an advantage for describing dishes and specials.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, carry trays safely, and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Previous experience in coastal or high-volume restaurants is a plus.
  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of Swahili or other languages is an asset.
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in an informal yet fast-paced environment.
