Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Officer, BI Development to join our global team.
Team and Role Purpose
Purpose of the team is to lead on the strategic planning, design and delivery of digital and data technology solutions used across SCA. The team will be key to defining the technology strategy including roadmaps for product developments, ensuring our systems remain fit for purpose, maximising the value they deliver and enabling our organisation to achieve impact for children. Working in partnership with Transformation Delivery, the team will be accountable for planning, design and delivery of digital and data technology solutions to Transformation Delivery projects, SCI Functions, and internal IT functions.
Role purpose
Working under the guidance of a Specialist, BI Developer and the broader global TDIT team, the role holder will support the building, implementation, and maintenance of Business Intelligence solutions within the organization. This is an entry level role designed to develop technical skills and knowledge in BI development. The role holder will assist in translating business requirements into BI solutions, learning best practices and contributing to continuous improvement of data and reporting capabilities.

Principal Accountabilities
- Support the development and maintenance of Business Intelligence solutions under the guidance of senior BI Developers, following agreed design patterns and best practices.
- Assist in the analysis of BI systems and processes, identifying opportunities for improvement and reporting findings to the senior team.
- Collaborate with team members and business stakeholders to understand analytic requirements, documenting these clearly for review.
- Complete assigned development tasks within agreed timeframes and in alignment with project delivery methodologies, seeking guidance where needed.
- Contribute to the preparation and delivery of agreed BI services to business functions (e.g. monthly KPI data, reconciliation reports) under supervision.
- Support the identification and escalation of technical risks and issues related to BI solutions.
- Assist in maintaining and supporting existing BI solutions in alignment with the organisation’s application support ways of working.
- Support IT Operations tasks related to BI infrastructure elements such as SQL performance monitoring, backup scheduling, and documentation of recovery plans.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation for all assigned work.
- Participate in proof-of-concept activities to explore new BI approaches and technologies, contributing ideas and learning from outcomes.
Experience and Skills
Essential
- Basic working knowledge of SQL, including writing simple SELECT queries, filters, and joins (practical experience through study, personal projects, or internships is acceptable).
- Foundational understanding of data concepts such as data modelling, relational databases, and reporting.
- An interest in Business Intelligence and data analytics, with motivation to develop technical skills in this area.
- Effective communication skills with an ability to listen carefully and ask questions to understand requirements.
- Initiative-taking and eager to learn, with a problem-solving mindset.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity, with an openness to working in a global context.
Desirable
- Exposure to Microsoft BI tools such as Power BI, SSRS, SSIS, or SSAS (through coursework, self-study, or hands-on projects).
- Basic familiarity with Excel for data analysis, including pivot tables or Power Query.
- Any exposure to Azure services or cloud-based data tools.
- Knowledge of or interest in the non-profit or international development sector.
- Exposure to agile project delivery methods.
- Basic familiarity with JIRA or similar project tracking tools.
- Any introductory experience with Python or R.
Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Demonstrated interest and foundational skills in data and technology are more important that formal education. No specific qualifications are required.
Desirable
- Degree or diploma in a computing, information technology, data science, or related field (or currently studying towards one).
- Relevant online certifications (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, SQL fundamentals, Azure fundamentals).
- Introductory certification in technology methodologies such as agile.
- Basic Programming Knowledge in python or R
