ABOUT THE COMPANY

Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi is the oldest hospital in Kenya. Founded in 1901 with a bed capacity of 40 as the Native Civil hospital, it was renamed the King George VI in 1952. At that time the settler community were served by the nearby European Hospital (now Nairobi Hospital). It was renamed Kenyatta National Hospital — after Jomo Kenyatta — following independence from the British. It is currently the largest referral and teaching hospital in the country.

JOB SUMMARY

Qualifications and ExperienceMasters in Clinical Psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;Bachelors in Clinical Psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;Higher Diploma in counselling psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;Certificate of Registration by a relevant professional body;Leadership/ Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;Evidence of proficiency and knowledge in computer applications; andA minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience and at least three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Formulating and reviewing counselling policies, strategies, guidelines and standards; coordinating guidance and counselling services;Initiating and developing counselling and guidance programmes;Designing strategies for psychological interventions;Monitoring implementation and evaluation of guidance and counselling projects and programmes;Facilitating sessions, seminars and workshop on guidance and counselling;Spearheading research and disseminating findings for implementations; preparing reports;Planning and budgeting for guiding and counselling activities;Building capacity and managing performance;Oversee preparation of unit performance contracts work plans;Prepare budgets and procurement plan;Initiating quality improvement initiatives; andMonitoring staff performance.
