Job Description/Requirements

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) seeks a Technical Advisor, Housing Market Strategies to support and advance the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelterâs work to catalyze thriving and inclusive housing markets . The purpose of the Center is and always has been to influence market actorsâ , private companies, public officials, civil society, consumers, and households â to change attitudes, behaviors, policies, business models, and products and services in ways that lead to scalable affordable housing solutions. This is the essence of the Terwilliger Centerâs contribution to the HFHI mission of ensuring that everyone has a decent place to live.

The Technical Advisor, Housing Market Strategies will play a pivotal role in applying design thinking and market-based strategies to enhance the Terwilliger Centerâs housing systems programming . This dedicated position sits within the centerâs Technical Excellence team and aims to push the boundaries of the centerâs market-based approaches by providing guidance to technical teams within the Terwilliger Center and to the wider Habitat for Humanity network on design thinking and market-based partnerships and strategies. The primary focus is on building capacity of teams to partner with and support private sector firms, social enterprises, and other housing system actors to directly (business-to-consumer, or B2C) and collaboratively with other actors (business-to-business-to-consumer, or B2B2C) connect with low-income households, delivering housing solutions that foster greater access to adequate housing .

Through strategic advisory, this role seeks to drive significant and positive change within the landscape of housing solutions pioneered by Habitat for Humanity and its partners. Responsibilities include advisory services to teams and the generation of knowledge, learning, and best practices in these critical areas . The Technical Advisor will actively share insights with both internal and external audiences , contributing to the dissemination of transformative ideas and practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
â¢Technical Support on User-Centric Design: (30%)
**Provide advisory services to technical teams in the Terwilliger Center and Habitat for Humanity in the areas of human-centered design and market-based partnerships and strategies that reach end-users and low-income households, through direct and collaborative approaches ( B2B and B2B2C)
**Actively explore and identify innovations within the housing sector, emphasizing human-centered design to transform and improve housing solutions.
**Collaborate with the Director of Housing Systems Development to formulate and execute strategies for incubating and scaling innovations in housing systems.

â¢Thematic Project Oversight: (20%)
**Lead and oversee time-bound projects and working groups focused on prioritized scale themes (eg. Media, labor, health) and cross-cutting areas (eg. Gender, climate) that the Technical Excellence team stewards, ensuring they are executed effectively, on time, and within budget.
**Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and monitor activities, incorporating human-centered design principles.

â¢Capacity Building: (15%)
**Provide technical training and mentorship to Habitat for Humanity national organizations and partners in developing market-driven solutions.
**Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs and workshops.

â¢Research and Analysis: (15%)
**Conduct research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges in the housing sector related to market strategies and prioritized thematic areas.
**Stay current with best practices and emerging innovations in market systems development and housing.

â¢Reporting and Evaluation: (10%)
**Prepare regular reports and updates on the progress of market systems development initiatives.
**Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team to assess the impact of interventions.

â¢Team Collaboration: (10%)
**Work closely with the Director of Housing Systems Development and other Technical Excellence team members to ensure alignment with HFHIâs overall goals and strategies.
**Mentor and support staff members as needed.

Minimum Requirements:
**Bachelorâs degree in a relevant field such as economics, business, or international development. Masterâs degree preferred.

â¢Years of Related Experience:
**At least 5-8 years working in a combination of housing programming, international development, and/or related private sector and consulting experience.

â¢Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
**Strong understanding of market-based approaches to poverty alleviation and housing solutions.
**Excellent project management skills, with a proven track record of successful project implementation.
**Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement and relationship-building.
**Ability to think strategically and contribute to the development of innovative solutions, with a focus on human-centered design and B2B2C strategies.
**Willingness to travel as required for project implementation and stakeholder engagement.

â¢Preferred Requirements (in addition to minimum):
**Understanding of international development, with expertise in housing and related thematic areas, such as climate, youth and employment, finance, and gender equity.
**Firsthand experience of working in the Global South
**Excellent networking and representational skills, working comfortably with government, donors, private sector and civil society at all levels
