JOB SUMMARY
Project Background As a federally owned enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. The International Cities Platform for Sustainable Development - Connective Cities - is an initiative of German international development cooperation that was founded at the end of 2013, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is implemented as a cooperation project between Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Engagement Global gGmbH – Service Agency Communities in One World (SKEW) and Deutscher Staedtetag (German Association of Cities). The aim is to network urban actors from politics, administration, business, science and civil society from developing, emerging and industrialized countries worldwide and to initiate an exchange of experience and learning processes for sustainable urban development. Many of the existing approaches to sustainable urban development, such as sustainable mobility, municipal economic development, energy efficiency in urban neighborhoods or good urban governance, are innovative and have already proven their value at local level. Often, however, they are not sufficiently known. Connective Cities provides systematic access to these practice-oriented solutions, advises local actors on the development of solutions and facilitates contacts with experienced local practitioners. A database of experts offers access to municipal expertise for advice on project development and implementation. The exchange on sustainable urban development is supported by means of a successful proven methodology, above all, and through international modular learning processes characterized by peer- to-peer consultations and customized technical advisory. The platform and network operate in various regions, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Maghreb, South Eastern Europe/South Caucasus, Asia and Latin America, as well as in Germany.
