Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Reports to: Head of Audit Dept.
Employment type: Full-time
Salary: Competitive — based on experience

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a technically strong, proactive Audit Semi-senior to join our Audit team. The successful candidate will support the planning and delivery of high-quality audit engagements across our SME and NGO client base. This role requires hands-on testing and documentation of audit evidence, identification and escalation of audit risks, and contribution to client recommendations that strengthen internal controls and financial reporting. You will work closely with the Head of Audit and the Managing Partner, mentor junior staff on fieldwork procedures, and assist with certain accounting tasks as workload permits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Audit planning & execution
  • Support the development of audit engagement plans, risk assessments and tailored testing strategies.
  • Execute substantive testing and control testing across financial statement cycles (revenue, purchases, payroll, fixed assets, cash/banks).
  • Prepare and maintain clear, audit-quality working papers and lead schedules for review.

Client liaison & reporting
  • Liaise with clients to obtain audit evidence, clarify queries and agree timelines.
  • Draft management letters, client memoranda and draft audit reports for review by seniors/partners.
  • Present key findings and recommendations to clients in a clear, professional manner.

Quality, compliance & controls
  • Identify technical and control issues, propose pragmatic remediation actions and escalate significant matters.
  • Ensure audits comply with ISAs, firm methodology and professional standards.
  • Support external audit reviews and respond to reviewer queries.

Teamwork & development
  • Supervise and coach junior audit staff during fieldwork (allocate tasks, review work, provide constructive feedback).
  • Contribute to efficient audit budgeting, time management and timely completion of assignments.

SME Accounting responsibilities (as capacity allows)
  • Prepare or assist with client accounting tasks including preparation of management accounts, reconciliations and basic tax filings.
  • Support bookkeeping reviews and QuickBooks (or similar) client reconciliations when requested.
  • Assist with ad-hoc client queries on IFRS/financial reporting and Kenyan tax compliance.
(These SME accounting duties are secondary to core audit responsibilities and will be required when client demand or team capacity permits.)

TECHNICAL / ROLE-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRSs and ISAs; familiarity with CAATs and audit automation tools.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with at least one accounting package (QuickBooks preferred).
  • Ability to draft audit reports, management letters and supporting schedules to a high standard.

BEHAVIOURAL / INTERPERSONAL COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Client-service orientation with professional integrity and strict confidentiality.
  • Strong organization, prioritisation and time management — able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Coaching mindset: ability to guide and motivate junior staff while promoting continuous improvement.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, with an eye for control weaknesses and practical remediation measures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum CPA-K qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant audit experience, preferably in an audit firm.
  • Demonstrated experience in SME financial reporting and Kenyan tax compliance work.

WHAT WE OFFER
  • Exposure to a wide range of SME clients.
  • A supportive learning environment with opportunities to develop technical audit, accounting and client-facing skills.
  • Competitive remuneration (based on experience) and a clear path for career progression within the firm.
