Audit Semi-senior (Audit & Compliance Focus)
Job summary
We are seeking a technically strong, proactive Audit Semi-senior to join our Audit team.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Support the development of audit engagement plans, risk assessments and tailored testing strategies.
- Execute substantive testing and control testing across financial statement cycles (revenue, purchases, payroll, fixed assets, cash/banks).
- Prepare and maintain clear, audit-quality working papers and lead schedules for review.
- Liaise with clients to obtain audit evidence, clarify queries and agree timelines.
- Draft management letters, client memoranda and draft audit reports for review by seniors/partners.
- Present key findings and recommendations to clients in a clear, professional manner.
- Identify technical and control issues, propose pragmatic remediation actions and escalate significant matters.
- Ensure audits comply with ISAs, firm methodology and professional standards.
- Support external audit reviews and respond to reviewer queries.
- Supervise and coach junior audit staff during fieldwork (allocate tasks, review work, provide constructive feedback).
- Contribute to efficient audit budgeting, time management and timely completion of assignments.
- Prepare or assist with client accounting tasks including preparation of management accounts, reconciliations and basic tax filings.
- Support bookkeeping reviews and QuickBooks (or similar) client reconciliations when requested.
- Assist with ad-hoc client queries on IFRS/financial reporting and Kenyan tax compliance.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRSs and ISAs; familiarity with CAATs and audit automation tools.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with at least one accounting package (QuickBooks preferred).
- Ability to draft audit reports, management letters and supporting schedules to a high standard.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Client-service orientation with professional integrity and strict confidentiality.
- Strong organization, prioritisation and time management — able to meet tight deadlines.
- Coaching mindset: ability to guide and motivate junior staff while promoting continuous improvement.
- Proactive, solution-oriented, with an eye for control weaknesses and practical remediation measures.
- Minimum CPA-K qualification.
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant audit experience, preferably in an audit firm.
- Demonstrated experience in SME financial reporting and Kenyan tax compliance work.
- Exposure to a wide range of SME clients.
