THE OPPORTUNITY

VamosWatu is looking for a driven Business Development Manager (BDM) to own pipeline generation from the ground up. Your job is to fill the CEO's calendar with qualified meetings from startup founders who are actively scaling their tech teams. You report directly to the CEO. No layers, no bureaucracy. Just outreach, results, and doors opened.


ABOUT VAMOSWATU

VamosWatu is a talent partner for US-based Seed and Series A startups. We help our customers build lean, reliable in-house tech teams owning talent acquisition, payroll, compliance, and office operations. We don't flood inboxes with CVs. We find the RIGHT engineers, designers, and product managers, vet them for skill and culture fit, then embed them directly into our customers' orgs.


WHAT YOU'LL OWN

  1. Build and execute multi-channel outbound campaigns (LinkedIn, email, phone, warm intros, events) targeting Seed and Series A startup founders (CEOs, CTOs, COOs, CPOs) and their hiring/department managers.
  2. Own cold outreach end-to-end: identify target accounts, craft personalized messaging, and convert prospects into booked discovery calls with the CEO.
  3. Deploy AI tools across your workflow: prospect research, lead enrichment, personalized outreach at scale, and automated pipeline reporting.
  4. Build and maintain a clean, organized CRM pipeline with conversion tracking at every stage; report weekly to the CEO with clear insights.
  5. Drive inbound through content collaboration, partnerships, and community plays (accelerators, VC networks, founder communities) that generate warm leads.
  6. Document and refine the outbound playbook: templates, cadences, ICP definitions, and objection-handling scripts that scale.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  1. Proven track record in B2B outbound pipeline generation and sales with demonstrable results: meetings booked, conversion rates, and revenue.
  2. Fluency in multi-channel prospecting: email, LinkedIn, phone, warm intros, and community engagement. You default to action, not analysis. But you do analyze.
  3. Sharp, human writing. Your outbound messaging is specific, personalized, and impossible to mistake for a template.
  4. Proficiency with AI sales tools to research prospects, personalize outreach, and automate workflows. You use AI as an accelerant, not a replacement for strategy.
  5. Self-directed accountability. You set your own pace, manage your own targets, and exceed them without supervision.

NICE TO HAVE

  1. Experience in the talent, recruitment, staffing, or EOR industry.
  2. Existing network in the startup or VC ecosystem (YC, Techstars, 500 Global, founder communities).
  3. Background in brand, SEO, content, or demand generation marketing that complements outbound.
  4. Hands-on experience building AI-augmented workflows: automated prospect research, intelligent lead scoring, or AI-drafted outreach sequences.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base Compensation: $1,500 to $2,500/month ($18,000 to $30,000/year) USD


Commission: 0.5% of gross revenue from every new customer you source, calculated on the customer's first six months of collected payments.

This is a full-time contractor engagement with VamosWatu.


HOW WE WORK

Your working hours are 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM EAT. This overlap gives you a live collaboration window during US business hours. You'll work from The Mansion, VamosWatu's co-working space in Nairobi, at no cost to you. The Mansion provides stable power, high-speed internet, and a community of peers.


WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

First 30 Days

  1. ICP defined and validated with the CEO. Target account list of 200+ qualified prospects built.
  2. First outbound campaigns live across LinkedIn and email. Messaging tested and iterated.
  3. AI tools and automation stack configured and integrated. At least one AI agent or automated workflow operational (e.g., automated prospect enrichment, AI-drafted first lines, or funding alert triggers).
  4. CRM set up with proper pipeline stages and tracking.
  5. Minimum 10 qualified discovery calls booked with startup founders or technical leaders.
  6. Outbound playbook v1 documented: sequences, templates, objection-handling, and ICP refinements.
  7. At least one partnership or community channel activated and generating warm leads.


First 60 Days

  1. Consistent weekly meeting cadence established: 5+ qualified meetings per week as the baseline target.
  2. Clear attribution data showing which channels and messages convert best.
  3. The CEO's calendar has a reliable, repeatable flow of qualified conversations, and you are the reason.
  4. AI-augmented workflows refined and producing measurable efficiency gains: faster prospect research, higher reply rates from AI-personalized sequences, and automated pipeline reporting.
  5. Second iteration of outbound playbook documented with data-backed refinements to ICP, messaging, and channel mix.


First 90 Days

  1. Weekly meeting volume scaled to 8+ qualified meetings per week. Pipeline is predictable and growing.
  2. At least 2 closed or late-stage deals directly attributable to meetings you sourced.
  3. Fully documented, repeatable BD operating system: ICP playbook, outreach sequences, AI workflow documentation, channel attribution model, and weekly reporting cadence.
  4. At least 2 active partnership or community channels generating consistent warm leads alongside outbound.
  5. Proposal to the CEO for scaling the BD function: what additional tools, budget, or headcount would accelerate pipeline further.
  6. You are operating as the single most reliable source of new business conversations for VamosWatu. Full stop.
