Job summary

The Business Development Officer (BDO) is responsible for driving business growth by acquiring new customers, expanding the bank’s customer base, increasing deposits, growing the loan portfolio, and strengthening relationships with existing clients in line with the bank’s strategic objectives and Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) regulations.

Job descriptions & requirements

Key Responsibilities
Business Growth & Sales
 Identify, develop, and onboard new retail, SME, and corporate clients.
 Market and sell the bank’s products and services including loans, deposits, trade finance, bancassurance, and digital banking solutions.
 Achieve assigned sales targets for deposits, loans, and fee-based income.
 Conduct market research to identify new business opportunities and emerging trends
within the Kenyan market.

Customer Relationship Management
 Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
 Provide tailored financial solutions to meet customer needs while managing risk.
 Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service excellence.
 Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.

Credit & Risk Management
 Conduct preliminary credit assessments and collect customer documentation.
 Prepare credit proposals in line with the bank’s credit policies and CBK guidelines.
 Monitor loan performance and support recovery efforts to minimize non-performing loans (NPLs).

Compliance & Governance
 Ensure full compliance with CBK regulations, AML/CFT requirements, KYC policies, and internal bank procedures.
 Uphold ethical standards and ensure accurate customer records.
 Participate in audits and regulatory reviews as required.

Reporting & Administration
 Prepare periodic sales and performance reports.
 Maintain accurate customer and pipeline records.
 Provide market intelligence and competitor analysis to management.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
 Growth in deposits and loan portfolio
 Number of new accounts opened
 Revenue and fee income generated
 Customer retention and satisfaction levels
 Portfolio quality and NPL ratios

Qualifications & Experience
 Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field.
 Professional certifications such as CPA (K), ACCA, or CIB preferred.
 At least 2–4 years’ experience in business development, sales, or relationship management within a bank or financial institution in Kenya.
 Strong understanding of Kenyan banking products, CBK regulations, and credit processes.

 Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
 Analytical and financial assessment skills.
 High level of integrity and professionalism.
 Ability to work independently and meet targets in a competitive environment.

Working Conditions
 Field-based role with frequent customer visits.
 May require travel within assigned regions.
 Performance-driven role with sales targets.
