Job summary
The Café Chef/Barista is primarily responsible for preparing high-quality food items in line with the café’s menu standards, while also supporting beverage preparation and front-of-house operations.

Food preparation excellence is the core deliverable of this role; barista duties and counter support are secondary but essential to overall performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Food Preparation & Kitchen Operations (Primary Focus)
Prepare and present all menu food items (sandwiches, samosas, breakfast items, pastries, and light meals) according to approved recipes and quality standards.
Ensure consistency in taste, portioning, and presentation across all food offerings.
Maintain strict food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
Manage basic prep planning to ensure availability during service hours and minimize waste.
2. Beverage Preparation (Secondary Focus)
Prepare and serve coffee and beverages (espresso-based drinks, tea, and other café offerings) according to established standards.
Operate, clean, and maintain coffee machines, grinders, and related equipment.
Support consistent beverage quality and presentation when required.
3. Customer Service & Sales
Greet customers professionally and take orders accurately.
Provide menu guidance, including food recommendations and daily specials.
Handle customer feedback and complaints promptly and professionally.
Actively upsell food and beverage items to drive average transaction value.
4. POS & Cash Handling
Operate the POS system efficiently and accurately.
Handle cash and electronic payments responsibly.
Ensure till balancing and transaction accuracy at the end of each shift.
5. Cleanliness, Hygiene & Compliance
Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, coffee station, service counter, and dining area.
Follow all health, safety, and company compliance standards without exception.
Ensure equipment and workstations are clean and operational at all times.
6. Stock & Store Support
Monitor stock levels for food ingredients, beverages, and packaging.
Assist with stock rotation, basic inventory checks, and loss prevention.
Support general store duties to ensure smooth daily operations.
7. Teamwork & Brand Representation
Work collaboratively with team members to maintain service flow during peak periods.
Represent the café brand through professionalism, grooming, and attitude.
Adhere to company policies, schedules, and operational procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
Proven experience in food preparation, café kitchen, or hospitality operations (essential).
Barista experience or willingness to perform barista duties as required.
Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
Customer-focused mindset with clear communication skills.
Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Honest, reliable, and operationally disciplined.
Barista Certificate is an advantage; practical experience will be considered.
Working Conditions
Flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Role requires standing for extended periods and handling hot equipment.
