Job descriptions & requirements

About Green EarthGreen Earth partners with smallholder farmers across our project regions to restore degraded land, regenerate soil health, and generate verified carbon credits — creating a model where environmental restoration and farmer livelihoods grow together. None of this is possible without disciplined financial management behind the scenes: every tree planted, every farmer trained, and every carbon credit certified depends on funds moving correctly, transparently, and on time.About the RoleAs Venture Finance Officer for Venture Kenya, you’ll be the person who makes sure money in the venture moves the right way — in, out, and everywhere it needs to be tracked. You’ll review payment requests against approved budgets, oversee a small team handling receipts, disbursements, and record-keeping, and make sure every transaction has the paperwork to back it up. Day to day, that means checking that incoming funds were logged and protected the moment they arrived, approving payments once you’ve confirmed invoices are in order, chasing down any missing documentation before it becomes a bigger problem, and pulling together monthly financial reports for the Country Director and Holding Finance. You’ll be the person who can answer “where does that transaction stand?” at any moment, because the records are always current — not scrambled together before an audit.Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure all incoming funds are correctly recorded and protected on the day they’re receivedReview and approve payment requests against approved budgets, ensuring invoices and supporting documentation are complete before processingOversee the Income & Receipts, Disbursements & Payments, and Records, Assests & Financial Reports functions to keep transactions accurate and traceableMaintain complete, audit-ready financial records with zero missing invoices or unreconciled transactionsCompile and submit monthly financial reports to the Country Director and Holding Finance on timeFlag and resolve missing documentation or financial discrepancies before month-end closeEscalate any payment requests above approved thresholds, or any signs of financial irregularity, promptly and appropriatelyRespond to financial queries from division heads, auditors, and Holding Finance as they arise We’re looking for someone precise, dependable, and comfortable owning financial accuracy from end to end — not just processing transactions, but genuinely understanding why every receipt and reconciliation matters to the bigger picture. You bring:A degree or professional qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related fieldSolid experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting — ideally within an operational, field-based, or nonprofit/social-impact organization in Kenya or the wider East Africa regionA strong eye for detail and comfort working with budgets, reconciliations, and financial reportingThe judgment to know when to approve a payment, when to hold it, and when to escalate — and the confidence to do soClear communication skills, able to explain financial status and requirements to non-finance colleagues (division heads, field teams) as easily as to Holding FinanceIntegrity and discretion, given the sensitivity of financial data and the audit trail required for carbon credit certificationFamiliarity with Kenyan financial regulations, tax requirements, and banking practicesComfort working within a structured reporting line, while still exercising sound independent judgment day to dayBonus: experience with financial reporting requirements tied to certification, compliance, or audit processes (e.g., carbon credit programs, grant compliance, or similar) Competitive Compensation & GrowthA competitive salary reflecting your financial expertise and the trust placed in this roleRoom to grow within a fast-moving international organization with long-term ambitionsStock options in our publicly listed company (AEX: EARTH), so you share in our collective successTangible ImpactYour work directly protects the integrity of a real carbon credit program in Kenya — the accuracy you maintain is what makes farmer impact verifiable and credibleEvery clean reconciliation and on-time report is a building block for a venture that’s actually changing lives on the groundA Team That Has Your BackJoin a venture with clear financial structure and support from Holding Finance, so you’re never navigating budget or compliance questions aloneWork alongside division heads and field teams who rely on you to keep the venture financially sound — a role where precision is genuinely valued, not just expected
