ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is in the motor vehicle industry and was established in Kenya in 2013. They sell, service and distribute high-end brands countrywide.

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Finance Manager will be responsible for all financial matters of the business. You will be working closely with group finance at the Headquarters and the divisional management to develop and implement strategies across the organization. In addition, the position will oversee all aspects of the accounting and finance functions of the business

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Typical duties included are but not limited to:

Duties and Responsibilities

Internal/External Interactions:

  1. Internal
    • Report to Director and the Country CEO
    • Work closely with the operational management team, Finance Team and functions at the Headquarters
  2. External
    • Government authorities
    • Auditors
    • Banks

 

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Finance
    • Develop cash flow projections and ensure availability of funds as needed.
    • Control cash, investment, and asset. .
    • Develop banking and supplier relationships and establish credit facilities to support operations business needs.
    • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
  2. Planning, Policy, and Business Relations
    • Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets.
    • Develop financial business plans and forecasts.
    • Participate in company policy development as a member of the senior management team.
    • Engage the finance committee of the board of directors to develop short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projections.
    • Represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, suppliers, dealerships, auditors, public officials, etc.
    • Remain up to date on best practices.
  3. Business Development
    • Support the Director in identifying financial products and services that assist in securing long term dealer relationships
    • Develop product pricing strategies that maximizes profits taking into account competitive price positions
    • Establish appropriate marketing cost budgets to achieve budget sales and profits
  4. Accounting, Tax and Administration
    • Oversee the accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function; supervise the company’s finance staff.
    • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
    • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for the company, the board of directors and appropriate governmental agencies; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
    • Coordinate audits and proper filing of tax returns and maintain professional and productive relationships with relevant taxation authorities and officials. Ensure full and timely claim returns on the company’s VAT payments
    • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
    • Oversee the management of the building and site
  5. Information Technology and Business Systems
    • Responsible for managing the company’s IT and business systems infrastructure, ensuring the business has the IT capabilities sufficient for its needs
    • To ensure effective coordination between the company and Group IT, avoiding duplication of effort and optimizing areas for systems deployment and development

Knowledge Responsibilities:

  • Keep up-to-date (or quickly understand for new territories) tax, accounting and allied legal issues for Kenya 

HR Responsibilities:

  • Manage, coach and development the staff within the finance department.
  • Provide support, where required to managers in the organization

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 10 years of senior management experience working within an organization with regional/international business). Motor Trade experience an added advantage.
  • Audit or accounting experience in a senior role
  • A thorough, practical, understanding of overall business disciplines and how real business needs can be addressed effectively with pragmatic solutions
  • An advanced level of written and verbal communication/presentation skills is essential.

 

Education

  • Minimum education at degree level in accounting
  • Must be a CPA or MBA

 

DESIRABLE: Experience in working in the automotive industry
