General Manager

An exciting executive leadership opportunity has become available for a General Manager to lead a dynamic and growing organisation operating within the logistics, mining, oil & gas, and project cargo sectors across East Africa.

This role is suited to a commercially astute and strategically minded leader who can drive regional growth, operational excellence, and market expansion in highly competitive and technically demanding environments.

The successful candidate will take full accountability for strategy development, operational leadership, financial performance, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring the business remains at the forefront of industry standards and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Lead the development and execution of a multi-country regional strategy aligned with shareholder objectives and long-term growth plans
• Identify market trends, risks, and opportunities within logistics, mining, and project cargo sectors and translate these into actionable strategies
• Drive the organisation’s brand positioning and market presence across East Africa

Operational & Commercial Management

• Oversee all operational, commercial, and financial functions, ensuring efficient and profitable service delivery
• Develop and maintain a strong sales pipeline, converting opportunities into sustainable revenue streams
• Drive strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and consortiums to secure large-scale projects and contracts
• Ensure adherence to QHSE standards, maintaining industry certifications critical to operations in mining and logistics environments

Financial Leadership

• Work closely with finance leadership to ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and overall financial performance management
• Champion a data-driven, finance-led decision-making culture across the business

Stakeholder & Market Engagement

• Represent the organisation at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder engagements
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, and regulators across the region
• Monitor competitive activity and identify opportunities for regional expansion

Leadership & Culture

• Lead and develop a high-performing executive team across finance, HR, and commercial functions
• Foster a performance-driven, people-focused culture
• Mentor and develop talent to support succession planning and long-term organisational capability

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, Engineering, or related field (MBA or Master’s preferred)
• Minimum 15 years’ industry experience, including 5+ years at executive leadership level
• Proven experience within logistics, mining, oil & gas, or related heavy industry sectors
• Demonstrated experience operating across East Africa or emerging markets
