Golf Course Superintendent
Job summary
The Golf course Superintendent assists the Green Keeper in maintaining and improving conditions of the greens, fairways, bunkers, and the golf course.

The GCS is expected to lead the golf course maintenance team as well as providing information and recommendations to the leadership and Golf Committee in providing consistent championship conditions.
Duties shall not be limited to:
- The GCS will lead and manage his/her department to ensure superb golfing conditions: firm, fast, and green.
- He/ She is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the club’s golf course and grounds.
- The GCS will be tasked and responsible for projects approved by the Golf Committee to the extent that such projects to be completed within the expected time frame.
- Supervising the golf course maintenance staff.
- Providing on-site supervision of mowing.
- Watering and fertilizing of the golf course.
- Supervising equipment maintenance and repairs
- Preparing and approving work schedules.
- Training the maintenance staff, and other duties as assigned.
- Familiarity with mowers and grounds keeping equipment is required.
- Must have knowledge of usage and application of fertilizers, fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, and miscellaneous chemicals such as surfactants and growth regulators.
- Must possess or be able to obtain pesticide license. College degree in Turf Grass Management or Agronomy not required but considered a bonus.
- Assess environmental/growing conditions of each green
- Review preparation for Winter damage concerns on greens
- Examine soil tests and nutritional inputs to all areas
- Evaluate turf and soil conditions along with current maintenance practices and develop long-term recommendations to improve the golf course experience
- Develop standard operating and course conditioning procedures
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
- The ideal candidate should be a Superintendent with a minimum of two years’ experience at a golf course known for consistent, championship conditioning.
- Subscribes to traditional maintenance practices (e.g. firm and fast, minimal watering)
- Player/student of the game with sound understanding of providing consistent ideal playing conditions.
- High Golf IQ is essential
- Experience providing fast, smooth, and firm greens on a daily basis. Successful experience with push-up greens
- Strong relationship builder with a history of excellent relations with their Green/Grounds Chairman, Golf Professional, and General Manager
- Confident, take charge leader, both with team and committee
- Strong budget management and forecasting (zero based) skills
- Excellent communication skills with both club and team members
- Strong observational skills and detail oriented
- Highly organized
- A creative turf manager with strong agronomic skills-stays current with advances in turf technology, irrigation management, and equipment
- Experience in tree maintenance, plantings and shade mitigation
- Strong business sense and ability to manage a budget
- Passion for the job and historic golf course architecture
EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor in Applied Science – golf course management
- Bachelor of Applied science- Horticulture
- Landscape Gardener
