ABOUT THE COMPANY

Established in the 1970s as Kitere Technical School, our institution was initially created by the local community as a craft apprenticeship training center. However, in the 1980s, the Southern Nyanza region experienced a growing demand for technical and vocational training. Recognizing this need, the Union of South Nyanza Welfare Association (USNWA), a lobby group, approached President Daniel Arap Moi to transform Kitere Technical School into a public institution.

JOB SUMMARY

Job DescriptionAn officer at this level shall:Teach and evaluate/assess courses in one’s discipline at undergraduate and graduate levels;Conduct research to inform knowledge, policy and practice;Develop proposals to attract research funding;Disseminate research findings through publications in peer reviewed journals, monographs, policy briefs, conferences and other creative works;Develop innovation and inventions and register patents;Supervise and examine undergraduate and graduate projects, tutorials, practicals/practicums, and field attachment sessions;Provide mentorship and career counselling to students and junior staff;Initiate and execute research project;Collaborate with academic faculty on curriculum development and review;Collaborate with the industry and other stakeholders for consultancy services in their areas of expertise;Establish partnerships, linkages and networks through projects and source donors for community projects;Provide professional and community service; andPerform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.Requirements for AppointmentFor appointment to this grade, one must have:Doctor of Philosophy or equivalent degree from a recognized institution in the relevant specialization,OR,Masters degree in the relevant field from a recognized university with at least three (3) years teaching experience at university level or 6 years in research or industry; andBe registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).Demonstrated ability for university teaching and research;Have participated in conferences and similar learned fora; andA minimum of six (6) publication points, of which at least four (4) should be from refereed journal papers for Masters holders or four (4) publication points of which at least two (2) should be from a refereed journal papers for PhD. holders.An applicant for the position of Research Fellow shall have an additional two (2) publication points which should be from refereed journal papers.
