JOB SUMMARY
The Legal Assistant will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to the organization, ensuring full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and safeguarding the institution’s legal and contractual interests. The role involves managing contracts, overseeing legal documentation, offering advisory services, and coordinating with external counsel where necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies across organizational operations.
Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, leases, and other legal agreements to protect organizational interests.
Maintain an up-to-date register and secure custody of all statutory records, contracts, and legal documents.
Monitor and maintain a legal calendar for deadlines, renewals, court dates, and other critical legal obligations.
Conduct legal research and prepare well-structured legal opinions and advisory reports.
Liaise with external legal counsel on litigation, regulatory matters, and complex legal issues.
Provide legal guidance to internal departments including HR, Finance, Marketing, and Operations to ensure compliance in decision-making and execution.
Review and vet legal documents including demand letters, statutory notices, pleadings, affidavits, and other litigation-related materials.
Support litigation management, dispute resolution, arbitration, and debt recovery processes.
Assist in the development, review, and enforcement of organizational policies and procedures from a legal perspective.
Advise management on legal risks, obligations, rights, and mitigation strategies.
Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent qualification.
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate.
Minimum of 3–5 years relevant post-admission experience.
Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
Excellent legal writing and research abilities (submission of sample work may be required).
High levels of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
Proven ability to manage multiple legal matters under pressure.
