Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) is a membership organization with over 1,400 women advocates and lawyers in Kenya.

LEGAL COUNSEL (AJ) - MOMBASA OFFICE
REF: FIDA/AJ/MBA/01/2026
JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel-FIDA-Kenya Mombasa Office, you will build bridges that will enable women access justice through legal representation, self-representation, alternative dispute resolution, strategic interest litigation, linkages with pro-bono lawyers and through the informal justice systems in collaboration with your immediate supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
LEGAL ADVICE AND REPRESENTATION


  • Provides FIDA-K clients with legal advice and referral services when required.
  • Prepare pleadings and legal briefs.
  • Conduct Alternative dispute resolution, mediation between parties and referrals to Informal Justice Systems
  • Court attendance
  • Strategic Impact Litigation


RESOURCE MOBILIZATION


  • Identify support in resource mobilization strategies.
  • Identify viable projects relevant to the team
  • In collaboration with grants team, develop proposals.
  • Meeting with Donors


PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT


  • Conduct Trainings including clients on self-representation and Informal justice systems
  • Implementation of grants (projects) and preparation of donor reports.
  • Report writing


NETWORKING & BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS


  • Assist in coordination of open days, legal aid and other workshops organized by the Team
  • Represent the Organisation in meetings with stakeholders and strategic partners.
  • Pro Bono lawyers’ coordination
  • Linkages with strategic partners.


REQUIREMENTS


  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a validpracticing certificate.
  • Minimum 2(two) years post admission experience as a practicing Advocate.
  • Certified Professional Mediator or Qualifications from Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
  • Excellent writing, editing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Very detail-oriented with strong interpersonal, organizational and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, to multi-task, and to work under pressure.
