6.  JOB PURPOSE
•    To provide Legal & Administrative support services to the Company and to act as a process server, so as to ensure smooth and timely departmental operations.
•    Enhances advocacy effectiveness by developing case information, evidence, and settlement options; tracking cases; supporting attorney's trial proceedings.
•    To provide  legal expertise and support on legal issues relating to the functions, structures and activities of the company and support management on issues pertaining to legal and regulatory framework and monitor compliance with legal and regulatory corporate governance requirements.

8.  JOB SPECIFICATIONS

ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING & WORK EXPERIENCE

•    Bachelor Degree in Law or any related field
•    Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law
•    An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
•    Commissioner for Oaths( added advantage)
•    5 years’ experience in a busy law firm or large organization
•    Computer Literate

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES
•    Knowledge Of Kenyan, international laws and the constitution
•    Knowledge of Kenyan Courts procedures
•    Strong Industrial Relations Skills
•    Experience of liaising with regulators and external lawyers
•    Strong administrative skills on personnel and company facilities
•    Strong organization and analytical skills with keen eye to detail
•    Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and team player
•    Ability to be discreet when handling confidential information
•    Innovative problem solver
•    Effective follow up and Reporting Skills

9.  DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

REGULAR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Legal  

•    Design of proper strategy for each litigation matter to ensure effective representation of the Company and protection of its interest in litigation
•    Handle liaison between Company entities and external counsel to coordinate information flow, and guide court preparations.
•    Monitor progress in litigation through attendance of litigation hearings
•    Provide the Management with proper and accurate appraisal on the status of company litigation through monthly litigation reports
•    Analyze all statutory compliance laws and regulatory requirements to ascertain company compliance obligations
•    Analyze all contracts with stakeholders of business and monitor compliance with the same by company entities
•    Draft legal opinions standard legal letters and contracts
•    Legal Advisory on insurance and Health & Safety matters
•    Manage correspondence from external and internal users directed to the Legal Department
•    Serve as a process server when needed

Administrative
•    Provide  advice and general guidance to Managers/Supervisors on labour laws, employee matters and related market practices so as to ensure a harmonious work environment
•    Initiate and follow up licensing and registration renewals and ensure compliance to administrative/statutory requirements e.g. Council licensing, NHIF, NSSF, Factories & Sites registration, NITA , NEMA etc.
•    Prepare and submit periodic reports

PERIODIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Prepare monthly litigations reports.
•    Documentation and conducting due diligence on guarantors
•    Company secretarial matters to ensure compliance in liaison with the Group Senior Legal Officer
•    Review of recent relevant legislations, case laws and judicial precedence’s and advisory on compliance.

DELIVERABLES
•    Timely execution of legal opinions.
•    Database needs to be reviewed and updated daily
•    Prepare monthly/quarterly and yearly reports each year
•    Staff training on Amendments to the Employment Laws.
•    Assist in Legal Activities Report to be submitted to Board every quarter
•    Assist in reviewing the regulations as stated in Strategic Goals and Plan
