Key Duties and Responsibilities
Media Relations & PR:
o Act as the primary point of contact for local and regional media outlets.
o Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, match reports, and club news.
o Proactively pitch stories to media to secure coverage.
o Coordinate interviews, press conferences, and media events.
o Monitor media coverage and manage the club's reputation.
Content Creation & Social Media:
o Oversee the work on the clubs website, social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn), and apps.
o Lead the team involved in creating engaging, consistent content (videos, photos, articles) that reflects the club’s brand guidelines.
o Create and distribute internal newsletters for members.
Match Day & Event Support:
o Ensure proper presentation of the club on match days.
o Provide, edit, and distribute team lists, match results, and updates to the league or relevant bodies on time.
Strategic Planning & Internal Comms:
o Develop and implement annual communication plans and strategies.
o Collaborate with club officials, coaches, and committees to coordinate communication efforts.
o Provide updates to sponsors and parents (for Youth teams).
Administration:
o Maintain an up-to-date database of media contacts.
o Maintain archives of club history, press clippings, and photography.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience: 2–5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or journalism (sports background strongly preferred).
Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create engaging, accurate copy.
Digital Proficiency: Strong knowledge of social media platforms, content management systems (e.g., WordPress), and photo/video editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
Organization: Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines (including evenings/weekends).
Interpersonal Skills: Creative, proactive, and capable of working effectively with diverse stakeholders (media, members, sponsors).
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
Working Conditions
This role requires flexibility, as it often involves working in the evenings and on weekends to cover games and events.
May require travel to away matches or related functions.
A Police/Background check may be required.
