Job Description/Requirements

Muungano Gender Forum is a multisectoral platform for promoting women’s rights in Kisii and Nyamira counties. The project is implemented by International Solidarity Foundation (ISF) since 2018, and the current 4-year project phase lasts till end-2025. The project organizes grassroots discussion forums to address gender equality and cooperates with County Governments to enhance coordination among state and non-state actors in effectively addressing gender inequality and social exclusion of women.

ISF is now seeking a Project Manager to lead the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the project, and to supervise the project team consisting of a Communications Coordinator and a Finance Officer.


Main duties of the Project Manager:


Planning: 

  • Preparing long term project plan and  detailed annual and quarterly budgets and workplans.
  • Defining project objectives, project scope, roles & responsibilities for MGF team.
  • Support project planning at the country level including monitoring plan.
  • Map and analyze other similar gender forums/networks/platforms in Kenya for benchmarking. 
  • Map and build rapport with relevant stakeholders in public, private and civil society sectors that have ongoing and/or potential programmes in promotion of gender equality in the target counties.


Implementing:

  • Design and coordinate the weekly forums in Kisii and Nyamira Counties.  
  • Coordinate with line ministries quarterly county coordination meetings with relevant CSO's.
  • Tracking costs to deliver project on budget.
  • Tracking project monitoring plan to ensure objectives are met.
  • Managing and adjusting for any changes in project scope, schedule and / or budget.
  • Identify and mitigate risks which may impact successful delivery of projects.
  • Managing the relationship and communication with community members, ISF partners and relevant stakeholders
  • Follow up on key points from the forums to County governments and its responsible persons, as well as other key stakeholders.
  • Prepare, send invitation letters, and follow up with relevant partners to participate in the Muungano Gender Forum in Kisii and Nyamira.
  • Map and build rapport with relevant stakeholders in public, private and civil society sectors that have ongoing and/or potential programmes in promotion of gender equality in the target counties.


Monitoring and evaluation

  • Identify project shortcomings and plan for interventions.
  • Analyze periodic monitoring results and report to Country Director any problems in the project performance.
  • Support and implement project internal and external evaluations.


Reporting

  • Prepare annual and quarterly activity and finance reports 
  • Prepare quarterly project performance reports for presenting to the steering committee.
  • Prepare weekly forum reports and quarterly country coordination reports for the project.

Other duties

  • Working with service provider e.g. the panelists, theatre group to ensure the community is informed with relevant messages. 
  • Coordinate with service providers to ensure quality and timely delivery of services. 
  • Regularly share information in relation to the project with the communications Coordinator for the website and social media to showcase activities, key results, and achievements.  
  • Supervise project staff and provide leadership to the team 
  • Any other tasks requested by the Supervisor. 

 

Required skills and experience

Education:

  • Appropriate University Degree in the fields of gender studies, community development, social sciences etc. 

Professional experience: 

  • At least 3 years’ experience in implementing gender programmes, preferably in the grassroots.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in project management including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting      
  • Experience in community mobilization and working with communities
  • Knowledge of relevant national and local policies, actors and networks in the developing countries.
  • Ability to facilitate joint meetings and workshops.
  • Ability to lead a small team, work independently and influence others.
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Good skills in Office software packages, especially Microsoft Office.

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent written and oral English and working language of the implementing county.

Travel: 

  • The selected person is expected to regularly travel inside Kenya, mostly in Kisii and Nyamira.
