<p><strong>Summary</strong><br />Our Client Heifer International is a global nonprofit humanitarian development organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty and caring for the Earth by empowering small holder farm families around the globe to become self reliant and attain sustainable livelihood through economically viable animal agricultural enterprise.&nbsp; Dairy value chain development is one of the key inventions of Heifer International in the East Africa region and Kenya in particular. The intervention has been implemented through a major umbrella project, the East African Dairy Development project (EADD) which started in 2008 with the objective of doubling household dairy incomes.&nbsp; The five year pilot project which has just ended (EADD-1) was implemented by a consortium of five partners including Heifer International (the lead partner), Technoserve, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), and African Breeders Services-Total Cattle Management. The project is now embarking on the second phase, EADD-2.</p> <p>In Kenya, the second phase of the project will adopt a more private sector led strategy with the overall objective of building significant partnerships with public and private organizations for co-funding, innovative design and overall project expansion. In addition to focusing on institutional capacity building to potential partner institutions, the project will also pilot innovative techniques and approaches in the industry to provide important lessons on improving dairy cattle feeding, breeding and animal health practices.</p> <p><strong>Function</strong><br />The position is responsible for maintaining accounting records and providing adequate accounting information and ensures the same is maintained in accordance with the laid down Heifer International policies and procedures and in accordance with International Accounting Standards. Further the individual is charged with safeguarding of the assets of the East Africa Dairy Development (EADD) Project Regional Office.</p> <p><strong>Responsibilities</strong><br />&bull;&nbsp;Manage the accounting functions at the regional office and preparation of the financial reports.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Assist the EADD Project Regional Finance and Administration Manager or designee in proper maintenance of accounting system and posting of transactions on daily basis. Responsible for accounting (controlling all accounts on daily and monthly basis).<br />&bull;&nbsp;Prepare cash flow projections for the regional office.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Monitor bank accounts and withdrawal of cash for field disbursement.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Prepare management reports and reviewing with the programme managers.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Responsible for proper tax computation (proper calculation of the taxes and their timely submission).<br />&bull;&nbsp;Responsible for tax exemption procedures and verification of suppliers invoices before payment. <br />&bull;&nbsp;Assist in budgeting for EADD Project Regional office and EADD Project Field offices.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Facilitate the procurement process in the procurement committee, as well as maintain staff imprest accounts.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Train Accounts staff on financial management and Logistics during field visits.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Prepare the accounting functions for annual audit or audits organised by the donors.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Support EADD project country offices in keeping financial records which may require country office visits and conducting training on various types of record keeping.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Support as needed team of Country EADD project accountants in controlling monthly financial closure reports, particularly cash books, coming from Heifer project locations and in initiating required corrections.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Support as needed the country accountants in preparing regular budget controls for the Heifer projects according to donor and Heifer International regulations. <br />&bull;&nbsp;Prepare financial reports and documentation if required for Heifer International annual closure and audit purposes, particularly assist EADD Project Regional Office - Nairobi in their annual audit exercise.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Collect and facilitate review of special reports for internal control. <br />&bull;&nbsp;Ensure the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date fixed asset register for the regional office.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Work closely with Heifer Kenya Finance &amp; Administration Manager and Heifer International headquarters Finance &amp; Administration teams.</p> <p><strong>Minimum Requirements</strong><br />&bull;&nbsp;Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in commerce, finance or business related field.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Active Certified Public Accountant, Association of Chartered Certified Accounts, or equivalent.<br />&bull;&nbsp;At least two (2) years of relevant work experience.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. <br />&bull;&nbsp;Computer proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic mail software, and knowledge of accounting software (e.g.: MS Office Suite, DOS, Accounting packages). <br />&bull;&nbsp;Strong organizational skills.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Anticipate future developments and trends to incorporate them into organizational plans.</p> <p><strong>Most Critical Proficiencies</strong><br />&bull;&nbsp;Good analytical skills and ability to verify information.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Knowledge of accounting and Statement of Financial Accounting Standards rules.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Strong skills in budgeting, reporting, and ability to analyze and interpret financial reports. <br />&bull;&nbsp;Excellent qualities and management, communication and interpersonal skills. <br />&bull;&nbsp;A good understanding and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger and environment, and knowledge of the context to which non-profit organizations operate.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Computer proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic mail software, and knowledge of accounting software (e.g.: MS Office Suite, Agresso, Solomon, QuickBooks). <br />&bull;&nbsp;Strong organizational skills.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Demonstrated written and oral fluency in English.</p> <p><strong>Essential Job Functions and Physical Demands</strong><br />&bull;&nbsp;Preparing and presenting documents in a well-designed and attractive format with superior attention to detail.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Willingness and ability to assign and review the work of direct reports.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Proven team and customer care skills with the ability to train and work cooperatively with a diverse staff, including field staff in several locations.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Constant face-to-face, telephone and electronic communication with colleagues both within and outside of Kenya.<br />&bull;&nbsp;May require constant sitting and moving;
