Job Description: Senior Accountant
Location: Nairobi
Role Purpose: Talent Grid Africa on behalf of their client in the food export industry is hiring a Senior Accountant.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for providing financial information and analysis to support strategic decision-making, budgeting, and operational performance.
This role will involve preparing detailed financial reports, analyzing cost efficiency, managing budgets, strong cash flow management, statutory compliance and offering insights that help the organization optimize resources and achieve financial goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, implement and monitor company internal control systems
- Develop overall corporate financial goals and objectives.
- Ensure cost and accounting practices comply with IFRS, tax regulations, and internal policies.
- Support statutory audits by preparing required schedules for cost and stock-related accounts.
- Liaise with customs, KRA, or regulatory agencies when necessary for export-related accounting matters.
- Prepare monthly management reports including production cost summaries, gross margin analysis, and export profitability.
- Generate dashboards and financial KPIs for leadership to support business decisions.
- Ensure preparation of organization financial statements and reports on regular basis
- Lead the preparation of annual and quarterly budgets, particularly for raw material procurement, processing, and export costs.
- Develop forecasts for production, sales, and exports based on historical and projected trends.
- Track actual performance vs. budgets and highlight key variances with commentary.
- Maintain accurate product costing for all raw materials processed for export, including labor, handling, logistics, and overheads.
- Conduct regular cost variance analysis between standard and actual costs (e.g., yield losses, wastage).
- Collaborate with production and stores teams to ensure proper stock valuation and FIFO is followed.
- Participate in and validate results from stock takes (weekly/monthly/quarterly) and reconcile discrepancies.
- Support export documentation and reporting by providing accurate cost and profitability data.
- Monitor exchange rate effects on exported product pricing and revenue.
- Assist export and logistics teams in analyzing cost efficiency per shipment.
- Ensure all export documentations are aligned before posting.
- Analyze export sales margins, factoring in logistics, freight, packaging, and export levies.
- Prepare and send customer statements and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Ensure all financial transactions are accurately and timely posted into the company accounting system (sales, purchases, payroll, expenses, bank transactions).
- Perform Daily and monthly reconciliation of accounts receivable and accounts payable to ensure balances are accurate and supported.
- Reconcile customer accounts, supplier statements, bank accounts, and control accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain clean ledgers with zero posting backlog and proper supporting documentation.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA/ACCA qualification (minimum CPA II, preferably CPA Finalist or Member).
- 5+ years of experience in management accounting, financial analysis, or budgeting.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, Sage, ERP).
