DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Waste Truck Operation

·       Safely operate waste collection trucks in accordance with company procedures and road safety regulations.

·       Collect and transport waste from designated locations to approved disposal or treatment sites.

·       Follow assigned routes and collection schedules efficiently.

·       Ensure waste is properly collected, secured, and transported.

·       Ensure the vehicle is parked and secured appropriately when not in use.

Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance

·       Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

·       Check the general condition and safety of the assigned truck.

·       Promptly report mechanical faults, breakdowns, or safety concerns.

·       Maintain the cleanliness and basic condition of the assigned vehicle.

·       Report servicing and maintenance requirements to the relevant supervisor.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

·       Observe all traffic, environmental, health, and workplace safety regulations.

·       Practice defensive and responsible driving at all times.

·       Ensure waste is handled and transported in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

·       Promptly report accidents, incidents, delays, or other safety and operational challenges.

·       Maintain a clean and responsible driving record.

Route & Collection Coordination

·       Work closely with waste collection crew members to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

·       Coordinate with the collection team during loading and unloading activities.

·       Ensure assigned collection routes are completed within the required schedules.

·       Report access challenges, missed collections, delays, or other route-related issues.

Records & Reporting

·       Maintain accurate records of trips and waste collections.

·       Record fuel usage and other required vehicle information.

·       Document accidents, incidents, breakdowns, and operational challenges.

·       Provide timely reports to the supervisor or operations team.

Customer & Public Relations

·       Maintain professional and respectful communication with customers, colleagues, and members of the public.

·       Handle customer interactions courteously while carrying out collection duties.

·       Escalate customer complaints or service-related issues to the appropriate supervisor.

·       Represent the company professionally at all times.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

·       Valid Heavy Commercial Driving Licence appropriate for the assigned vehicle.

·       Minimum 6 years' experience as a heavy commercial vehicle driver.

·       At least 2 years' experience driving waste collection trucks.

·       Proven experience operating heavy-duty trucks in an urban or commercial environment.

·       Good knowledge of Kenyan traffic rules and regulations.

·       Clean and demonstrable driving record.

·       Good knowledge of road safety and defensive driving practices.

·       Experience with waste collection equipment and truck-mounted hydraulic systems is an advantage.

·       Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and fault identification.
