About Mukuru Promotion Centre
Mukuru Promotion Centre (MPC) is a faith-based charitable organization supporting communities in the informal settlements of Mukuru, South B, Nairobi. The Sisters of Mercy founded MPC in 1985 in response to the community challenges in the Mukuru Informal Settlements. It is situated at the heart of the Industrial Area, along the New Likoni Road just 1 km off Mombasa Road and borders the Mukuru Kayaba Informal Settlement.
MPC endeavors to empower the Mukuru community through education, health, welfare and social rehabilitation services.
About Songa Mbele na Masomo
Songa Mbele na Masomo Children Centre is a dedicated community-based organization that supports children living with disabilities in the heart of Mukuru. We provide a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for over 60 children with diverse conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hydrocephalus, Down syndrome, Ichthyosis, Intellectual Disabilities, and more.
We are looking for a compassionate, committed, and patient Caregiver to join our team and make a real difference in the lives of these incredible children.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience working with children with disabilities is highly preferred
- Basic training in caregiving, special needs support, and Diploma in early childhood development
- A heart for service, strong sense of responsibility, and resilience
- Ability to manage a large group of children with varied needs
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- First aid knowledge is a MUST
Key Responsibilities:
· Work with the teacher in-charge of the special unit in caregiving and support to the children living with disabilities in that special unit, This include, but not limited to general cleaning of the special unit class, furniture and equipment, helping and training toileting for children, helping in feeding, and children movement within the center.
· Be responsible for the hygiene program in the special unit. Ensure the children are kept clean and their classroom, toilets, toys and beddings and other learning materials are kept clean at all time
· Collaborate with the storekeeper in making sure the necessary materials and items are provided in time.
· Assist the teacher and therapist in the learning and therapy programs respectively.
· Ensure all children take their meals and are wiped clean after the meals.
· Clean all the items and equipment in the hygiene program.
· Develop healthy relationships with parents and promote collaboration.
· Organise and manage a clean ,safe and secure education environment for the special children
· Attend and participate in education and personal development workshops.
· Be committed to self- development education programs.
· Report any issue affecting the children, staff, or parents to the head of Special Unit.
· Diligently perform all other duties as may be assigned by the management.
· Exercise confidentiality in all matters relating to the children and their parents /guardians
· Maintain high standards of hygiene. The children should be clean and their environment spotless and ensure safety of the children
