Job Purpose:
The Electrical Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment within the manufacturing plant. This role is key to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electrical components, ultimately contributing to operational excellence and minimizing downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform both scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on all electrical systems, machinery, and equipment to ensure they operate effectively.
• Diagnose electrical faults in motors, control panels, PLC systems, and electrical circuits, and take corrective actions in a timely manner.
• Install, commission, and test electrical machinery, equipment, and control systems according to specifications and safety standards.
• Read and interpret electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, and blueprints to facilitate troubleshooting and repairs.
• Monitor electrical systems performance and propose solutions to improve electrical efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
• Ensure compliance with Kenyan electrical codes, safety standards (e.g., OSHA), and company-specific procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, downtime reports, spare parts usage, and service reports.
• Collaborate with the mechanical team and other departments to resolve cross-functional issues and improve overall production output.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior technicians, ensuring that they understand and follow safety procedures and operational best practices.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronics, or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
• Valid Electrical Wireman's License (Class B or higher) from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) in Kenya.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance in a manufacturing environment or related industry.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
• In-depth knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including motors, drives, control panels, and PLC systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider Electric).
• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, control diagrams, and manuals.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair faults in electrical circuits, wiring, and machinery.
• Knowledge of Kenyan electrical standards, including safety regulations and environmental compliance.
• Familiarity with automated machinery and understanding of mechanical systems is a plus.
