Position Summary

We are urgently looking for a Farm Manager / Agronomist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall management of farm operations and the provision of technical agronomic leadership to ensure optimal crop production quality, profitability, and sustainability. The position oversees farm planning of products like(tomatoes, Onions, Avocado, bananas, oranges), crop establishment, irrigation, pest and disease management, harvesting, workforce supervision, budgeting, and compliance with agricultural standards and best practices.

The role requires a hands-on professional capable of managing day-to-day farm activities while providing technical guidance on crop production and implementing modern agronomic practices.


Education & Experience

· Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Management, or a related field.

· Master's Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Management, or related discipline is an added advantage.

· Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in farm management and crop production.

· Demonstrated experience managing commercial farming operations.

· Experience with irrigation systems, crop protection programs


Responsibilities

Farm Operations Management

· Plan, coordinate, and supervise all farm activities from land preparation through harvesting and post-harvest handling.

· Develop annual and seasonal farm production plans and budgets.

· Ensure timely execution of farming operations to meet production targets.

· Manage farm resources, including labor, machinery, equipment, and agricultural inputs.

· Monitor farm performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.

· Maintain farm infrastructure, irrigation systems, roads, storage facilities, and equipment.

Agronomic Management

· Develop and implement crop management programs to optimize yield and quality.

· Monitor crop growth and field performance throughout the production cycle.

· Conduct soil assessments and recommend fertility improvement measures.

· Develop fertilizer and crop nutrition programs based on soil and crop requirements.

· Identify and manage pest, disease, and weed challenges using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches.

· Evaluate new crop varieties, technologies, and agronomic practices to improve productivity.

Irrigation and Water Management

· Plan and oversee irrigation schedules and water-use efficiency programs.

· Monitor irrigation systems and ensure proper maintenance.

· Ensure sustainable use of water resources and compliance with environmental requirements.

 

Team Leadership and Management

· Supervise farm supervisors, field staff, machine operators, and casual laborers.

· Organize staff work schedules and allocate responsibilities.

· Train and mentor farm personnel on agronomic practices, health and safety, and operational procedures.

· Conduct performance monitoring and staff evaluations.

Budgeting and Cost Control

· Prepare and manage farm operational budgets.

· Monitor input usage and operational costs to ensure efficiency and profitability.

· Maintain records of expenditures, inventory, and farm assets.

· Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

· Ensure compliance with company policies, agricultural regulations, and industry standards.

· Implement Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and other quality assurance systems.

· Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and sustainability standards.

· Support certification processes where applicable.

Data Management and Reporting

· Maintain accurate records of crop production, input utilization, labor, yields, and farm performance.

· Prepare regular operational and agronomic reports for management.

· Analyze production data and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

· Utilize farm management software and digital agricultural tools where applicable.

Stakeholder Coordination

· Liaise with suppliers, contractors, extension officers, researchers, and regulatory authorities.

· Support customer, client, and investor visits to the farm when required.

· Collaborate with management to develop long-term farm growth strategies.

· Proven leadership and team management experience.


Technical Skills

· Strong knowledge of agronomy, crop production, and soil fertility management.

· Experience in irrigation and water management systems.

· Knowledge of pest, disease, and weed control strategies.

· Ability to develop production plans and manage agricultural budgets.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and farm management software.

· Strong data analysis and report-writing skills.
