Company Description

The Local Grill Kenya, established in 2018, carries forward the legacy of its South African origins, founded in 2002. We pride ourselves on our “field to fork” principles, sourcing ethical and sustainable beef through partnerships with local farmers and butchers. Our processes emphasize quality, from responsible rearing practices to advanced beef aging techniques. By collaborating with producers across Kenya, we've consistently enhanced our offerings, delivering a superior dining experience every year. Located in Nairobi County, we are committed to showcasing the best Kenyan beef from various regions.


Role Description

With 5-year experience, we are looking for a lively individual who demonstrates excellent people skills, strong communication, and proven leadership abilities. As the Head Chef, you will be directly responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring food is prepared to a high standard, the team performs efficiently, and our overall culinary vision is executed consistently.


Key Responsibilities

  • Menu Creation & Development: Designing, updating, and innovating menus while considering seasonality, costs, customer preferences, and dietary trends.
  • Quality Control: Directing how dishes are cooked and plated; personally "polishing" plates before they reach customers to maintain high standards.
  • Team Leadership: Hiring, training, and motivating sous chefs, line cooks, and prep staff; setting the work culture in a high-pressure environment.
  • Operations & Workflow: Coordinating daily kitchen activities, organizing prep work, and managing service flow during busy periods.
  • Financial Management: Monitoring food costs, portion sizes, and labor costs; negotiating with suppliers and maintaining stock levels.
  • Compliance: Enforcing strict health and safety standards, ensuring proper food storage, and complying with all relevant regulations.
  • Maintenance: Overseeing kitchen equipment maintenance and ensuring all tools are in good working order.
