Job Description/Requirements

The International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation, with some 145 staff members on five continents, working through field-based analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve deadly conflict

Conducting extensive field research into prevailing security, social and political conditions in Northern Uganda. Providing analysis and advice on key conflict prevention and resolution issues in Northern Uganda. Proposing policy initiatives for relevant government and non-governmental actors to address the underlying issues that feed grievances. Preparing detailed reports and briefing papers based on research findings and including policy recommendations

In depth knowledge of Northern Uganda and Central Africa, ideally with knowledge of governance issues in Uganda. Extensive contacts in Uganda with governmental and non-governmental officials, media, and academia. At least five years of professional experience in conflict analysis, journalism, NGO, INGO, or government work related to Northern Uganda. Excellent demonstrated writing and analytical skills, and ability to summarise large amounts of written material. Fluency in English. Knowledge of French and Swahili would be an asset. Masters degree in International Relations, Political Science, Journalism, Sociology or equivalent professional experience.

The research proposal should put forward ideas on themes for future Crisis Group reports on Northern Uganda and describe briefly how the research would be conducted. The writing samples must be unedited pieces on current issues
