Assistant Accountant – Job Description
Location: Nairobi
Salary: Ksh. 40,000 – 50,000 Gross
Role Purpose
To support the finance department in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, managing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with statutory and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and update the general ledger and accounting records
Prepare bank, supplier, and account reconciliations
Support preparation of monthly financial reports and schedules
Assist in payroll processing and statutory deductions reconciliation
Prepare documentation required for internal and external audits
Verify invoices, payments, and supporting documentation for accuracy
Maintain organized financial records and filing systems
Support budget tracking and expense monitoring
Assist in strengthening internal controls and compliance processes
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA Finalist (or advanced stage)
Experience
4–5 years’ experience in accounting or finance role
Experience supporting audits and statutory processes is an added advantage
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong reconciliation and ledger management skills
Knowledge of payroll and statutory compliance processes
Financial reporting support capability
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Integrity, confidentiality, and reliability
Good organizational and time-management skills
