5. DIRECTOR ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES J/G “R” 1 (ONE) POST.
Reporting to Chief Officer – Water, Irrigation, Environment Climate change and Natural Resources
Duties and responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities will involve:- Implementation of the strategic plan; Coordinate the setting of performance targets; Handling technical, administrative, human resource, budgetary and asset management; Policy formulation, interpretation and implementation; Negotiation , legislation and domestication of relevant MEAs; Conceptualization, development, implementation and monitoring of environmental and natural projects initiatives and programs; Rehabilitation, restoration and conservation of river basin; other riparian ecosystems and any other assignments as assigned.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have;
i. Served in the grade of Deputy Director of Environment and Natural Resources or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or any recognized entity for a minimum period of three (3) years.
ii. Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines:- Environmental Science and Management, Aquatic science ,Natural resources management, Forestry, Geospatial information and Remote sensing, Bio-diverse systems Engineering, Water Resources Management, Agriculture and any other relevant course from a recognized institution.
iii. Masters degree in any of the following disciplines:-Environmental economics, Natural Resource Management, aquatic sciences, Environmental Education/Zoology/Health/ Chemistry, Agriculture, Land and water Management and any other related field from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
iv. Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development program lasting not less than six (6) weeks or equivalent management training from a recognized institutions.
v. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution;
vi. Demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competence in work performance and exhibited a thorough understanding of national goals, policies, objectives and ability to relate them to proper management of environment and natural resources.
vii. Be a member of a professional body in good standing (lead expert with NEMA, lead expert registered with Environmental Institute of Kenya (EIK).
