The Intensivist is responsible for the comprehensive management of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Role involves diagnosing and treating life-threatening conditions, coordinating multidisciplinary care, monitoring advanced life-support systems, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and critical care management.

Key Responsibilities
Provide specialized medical care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
Diagnose and manage life-threatening conditions such as severe infections, respiratory failure, cardiac complications, trauma, and multi-organ failure.
Oversee and manage life-support systems including ventilators, dialysis, and cardiac monitoring devices.
Perform critical care procedures such as intubation, central line placement, arterial line insertion, and emergency resuscitation.
Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans based on clinical assessments and diagnostic findings.
Lead and participate in emergency response and critical care interventions.
Maintain accurate patient records, treatment plans, and ICU documentation.
Communicate with patients’ families regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, and prognosis.
Participate in clinical audits, medical research, training, and continuous medical education programs.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and medical regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent medical degree.
Master’s degree or Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, or a related specialty with ICU training.
Valid medical license from the relevant medical regulatory authority.
Board certification or specialist recognition in Critical Care Medicine is an added advantage.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in intensive care or critical care settings.
Strong knowledge of ICU protocols, critical care procedures, and life-support technologies.
Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.
