Job Description/Requirements

LEGAL RECOVERY OFFICER

We are a medium sized Credit Only Microfinance Company based in Nairobi Kenya with branches across the country. As a Legal Recovery Officer, you will ensure that all the company’s outstanding debts are attended to promptly and in a professional manner by initiating the recovery process and where need be, commence and process proceedings at the small claims court.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

a. Initiate debt recovery negotiations with defaulters in your portfolio.

b. Prepare and deliver demand letters to defaulters.

c. Initiate legal debt recovery process through the Small Claims Court.

d. Liase with the company’s External Debt Collectors for recovery measures.

e. Advise the management on default control policies to adopt to reduce bad debts.

f. Update account status and database regularly

g. Any other job as may be directed by the management.



QUALIFICATIONS

a. MUST possess at least a Diploma /Certificate in Law or Paralegal studies  from a recognized and accredited institution. Candidates with no legal background will not be considered.

b. Proficiency in Computer applications.

c. A related job experience of at least 6 months.



SKILS AND COMPETENCIES

a. Candidate who are well versed with the Small Claims Court processes and general court processes will have an added advantage.

b. Exposure to successful resolution of debt recovery issues will be valuable

c. Must have strong knowledge of customer relations/satisfaction as they relate to legal and commercial concepts

d. Works well in an environment with firm deadlines; results oriented

e. Able to work both independently and as part of a team

f. Strong analytical skills required

g. Capable of making timely, independent decisions while consulting as appropriate

h. Confident, courageous and persuasive in court and during negotiations

i. Provides weekly and monthly reports and goes over with department heads and Legal team leaders

j. Maintains strict confidentiality in all matters

k. Opens and closes all legal files

l. Responsible for overall coordination of legal issues

m. Performs other related duties as assigned

n. Ability to work long hours including weekends

o. Excellent communication skill necessary to interact with attorneys/lawyers and clients by both telephone and written correspondence
