Plant Technician – Electrical
Position Overview
BIOSORRA, a leading biochar carbon removal scale-up and Kenya’s first scalable biochar producer, is seeking a Plant Technician – Electrical to join our growing team. We design and operate pyrolysis machines that convert biomass into biochar and energy, driving sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving soil fertility.
The role is full-time and involves the installation, operation, and maintenance of plant electrical systems. The ideal candidate should be skilled in diagnosing and resolving electrical problems independently, supporting continuous production, and working effectively with the Plant Engineer and production team. The role requires flexibility to work rotational shifts (day, night, and weekends) and the ability to lead and guide others in electrical operations. The job location is in Thika, Murang'a County.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Operations: Operate, inspect, and maintain electrical systems for pyrolysis machines and plant utilities
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Independently identify, analyze, and resolve electrical faults, ensuring minimal downtime
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Carry out scheduled servicing, repairs, and upgrades of electrical panels, motors, PLCs, drives, wiring, and control systems
Installation & Fabrication: Support installation of new electrical systems and modifications to improve plant performance
Safety & Compliance: Ensure all electrical work meets regulatory standards and company HSE protocols
Data & Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, equipment status, and fault analysis for process improvements
Teamwork & Leadership: Collaborate with technicians, develop and execute training programs for less experienced staff, and support the engineering team in delivering reliable plant operations
Continuous Improvement: Participate in system upgrades, energy efficiency projects, and process optimization initiatives
Mandatory Requirements
Education & Skills
Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, or a related field
Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, control panels, VFDs, PLCs, and motor controls
Proficiency in English and Kiswahili
Industrial Experience (minimum 4 years) in:
Electrical maintenance and troubleshooting in industrial environments
Installation and wiring of machinery and plant equipment
Diagnostics of control and instrumentation systems
Working with high-voltage and thermal process equipment (advantage)
