Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Caterer/Chef/Cateress to join our high school’s food service team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious and appealing meals to our students, staff, and visitors. This individual must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment, have excellent organizational and time-management skills, and be able to work collaboratively with other members of the food service team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan menus and create nutritious meals that meet state and federal nutrition guidelines, as well as dietary restrictions and food allergies of students and staff.
- Prepare and cook meals using a variety of cooking techniques, such as baking, roasting, grilling, sautéing, and frying.
- Estimate food requirements and manage inventory, ordering supplies as needed to maintain adequate stock.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment by adhering to food safety and sanitation standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with other members of the food service team to ensure meals are prepared and served on time.
- Assist with the training and supervision of kitchen staff, including student workers.
- Respond to feedback from students, staff, and visitors to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns or complaints.
- Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and purchases.
- Responsibility to effectively promote and sell school canteen items by engaging with students, staff, and visitors, utilizing excellent customer service skills to highlight the benefits and features of the available items and increase sales.
Qualifications:
- ü A diploma or equivalent required, associate’s or bachelor’s degree in culinary arts, food service management, or related field preferred.
- ü Previous experience in a school or institutional food service setting strongly preferred.
- ü Knowledge of state and federal nutrition guidelines and food safety and sanitation regulations.
- ü Ability to plan and prepare nutritious and appealing meals that meet diverse dietary needs and restrictions.
- ü Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- ü Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- ü Ability to operate kitchen equipment and tools, such as ovens, stoves, mixers, and knives, safely and effectively.
- ü Ability to promote and sell school canteen items in a persuasive and effective manner, using excellent customer service skills to engage with students, staff, and visitors, and promote the benefits and features of the items available.
