This role will also be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of the staff at the plant by conducting regular audits and providing action plans to departments to improve health and safety standards

Job Description/Requirements
Duties:
- Food Safety Team Leader (FSTL) of the company’s Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
- Assessing quality assurance strategies periodically to determine best practices and improvements that could lead to fewer problems and interruptions in the production schedule
- Consulting with the Sales and Production sections to understand any quality issues and how standards can be improved to ensure that product quality is high and consistent
- Organizing periodic training programs to develop the knowledge-base and expertise of staff in the section and conducting follow-ups to assess adoption of new/improved processes.
- Conducting performance appraisals of the QA Department and providing timely feedback on strengths as well as areas of improvements
- Enhance occupational health and safety protocol adoption among staff.
- Preparing internal and external audit schedules for quality, safety, and legal ensuring implementation of the same, and reporting on the findings
- Ensuring compliance to the laws, related requirements and statutory requirements
- Ensuring continuously that all employees are aware about safety, health and welfare and they are implementing them.
- Leading formal risk assessment for the evaluation of risks with respect to food safety hazards, hygiene, and Occupational environment health and safety hazards
- Any other duty that is in line with the position, as assigned by the GM
Academic Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science Degree in relevant fields (Agriculture, Food Science, Nutrition or Biological Sciences)
Professional Qualifications
- Trained on the latest FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System (ISO 22000, ISO T/S 22002, Additional Requirements)
- Trained on ISO 17025 Standard for Food Laboratories
- Understanding of all the statutory & regulatory requirements in the Kenyan food industry (KEBS and other Local Authorities)
- Working Knowledge of labor legislation on Safety, Health and Environment Management (DOSH, NEMA etc)
- Trained on another Quality Management Systems (Kaizen, ISO 9001.
- Knowledge in occupation health and safety legal requirements as well as environmental management legal requirements.
- Trained on conducting management systems internal audits
Work Experience:
8 Years (minimum) in a QA / QC Role at a food factory, of which 4 years must be at Management level.
Experience in cereals / grain milling and extrusion.
