We are looking for a Senior Accountant. The incumbent reports to the Finance Manager
Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant is responsible for financial reporting, general ledger management, and regulatory compliance, while also overseeing the accounting team and ensuring the integrity of financial records
Key Responsibilities
• Preparation of accurate and timely management accounts for review with explanations and variances.
• Compiling and submission of quarterly and annual returns to the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) in compliance with IFRS 17 and all the other IFR standards.
• Updating and maintaining accurate investment register on a monthly basis.
• Reviewing and ensuring all general ledgers are properly reconciled.
• Participating in both internal and external audits.
• Participating in annual budget preparation
• Ensuring the company is compliant with all tax matters
• Ensuring compliance with other statutory bodies for example NSSF, SHA/SHIF, HELB etc.
• Supervising other accountants and ensuring smooth operation within the finance department.
• Maintain an accurate Fixed Asset Register and ensuring all records are up to date.
• Develop financial budgets and forecasts to support planning and decision making.
• Generate and share monthly branch profitability reports and departmental management expense reports
• Preparation of monthly management accounts and variance analysis reports.
• Compile and present financial information for management and board reports.
• Provide weekly performance snapshots on Production, claims and expenses.
• Design and maintain a dashboard for monthly performance tracking.
• Ensure revenue assurance through continuous monitoring and analysis.
• Approval of claims files and other payments.
• Any other duties as may be allocated
Academic and Professional Qualifications
• At least Bachelor’s degree in Finance, accounting or related field.
• CPA (K) and a member of ICPAK.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role in the insurance sector

• In-depth understanding of insurance accounting.
• Knowledge in regulatory framework and requirements.
• Technical accounting knowledge.
• Basic understanding of Shari’ah accounting principles
• Excellent communication, analytical and reporting skills.
• Self-driven.
• Ability to work under strict deadlines.
• Good interpersonal relationship skills.
• Proficient in financial systems (preferably SAP), advanced excel and financial modelling.
