Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Accountant with a background in construction or project management to handle full accounting, taxation, and statutory compliance in Kenya. The role requires hands-on KRA iTax expertise, strong project cost control skills, independent financial reporting, and direct liaison with regulators.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Independently prepare and maintain accurate and complete books of accounts in accordance with IFRS.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Generate management accounts and project financial reports.
- Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Perform bank reconciliations, cash book reconciliations, and control account reconciliations.
Taxation & Statutory Compliance (Hands-on Required)
- Independently prepare and file statutory returns via KRA
iTax, including:
- PAYE
- VAT (Input vs Output VAT)
- Corporation Tax
- Withholding Tax
- NSSF, NHIF, and NITA
- Ensure compliance with eTIMS / ETR invoicing requirements.
- Liaise directly with KRA, including handling audits, tax reviews, objections, and demand notices.
- Coordinate with auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities.
- Ensure all statutory filings are accurate, timely, and penalty-free.
Budgeting, Cost Control & Financial Planning
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and cash flow forecasts.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
- Track and control project costs and overheads.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
Payroll Management
- Independently prepare and process monthly payroll accurately and on time.
- Calculate and remit PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, and NITA in compliance with Kenyan law.
- Maintain proper payroll records and statutory schedules.
Audit, Internal Controls & Compliance
- Support internal and external audits.
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure proper documentation, filing, and record retention.
- Uphold high ethical standards and compliance discipline.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Age: 35 years and below
- Proven accounting experience in the construction / project management industry
- Hands-on experience using KRA iTax (not supervisory or assistive only)
- Ability to independently prepare financial records, generate reports, file taxes, and liaise directly with KRA
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and statutory compliance
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills in English

- CPA (K) – Holder or Finalist
- Experience in:
- Construction or infrastructure project accounting
- Project / job costing and cost control
- Multi-currency accounting
- Joint Venture (JV) / Consortium projects
- Previous experience working as an Accountant with a Chinese construction company
- Experience working with Chinese or other foreign management teams
