Assistant Post Harvest Manager (Flowers Packhouse) Kitale

Job purpose:

The position holder will ensure quality control throughout the post-harvest process in order to produce homogeneous flowers of the standard quality level consistent with the client’s requirements while producing reliable and timely production reports as per the set parameters.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and ensure that all the flower pack house activities from receiving of flowers from the farm to packing and loading the final product for export while ensuring that post-harvesting standards and quality controls are fully implemented efficiently within the laid down procedures.

• Ensure the packhouse is well staffed with the right number and well-skilled staff 

• Control the consumption of raw materials, re-stocking levels, and procurement of stocks

• Produce daily, weekly, and/or monthly computerized reports and statistics required on time.

• Ensure proper use of the barcoding system in coordination with the Export and IT department.

• Implement the time schedule and produce a packing list that will inform the export and production departments.

• Manage the company quality controls and parameters and ensure they are within the global standards in liaison with the Production Department.

• Be responsible for staff management including training, time management, performance, and disciplinary action in liaison with the HR Department.

• Undertake all necessary documentation as required and ensure that shipping documents are accurate and generated at the right time

• Coordinate with the transport department to ensure a timely and efficient supply of flowers from the farm to the grading hall.

• Ensure raw material handlers process flowers as per raw material standard operating procedures and raw material customer specifications and ensure the quality requirements for orders processed are achieved.

• Ensure smooth and efficient communication among all personnel in the Packhouse

• Report any system and/or process failure to the Packhouse manager

• Report any cases of indiscipline  or breach of company regulations by the workers to the Packhouse manager 

• Ensure that facilities provided in the area are properly utilized with the intended purpose, kept clean and well maintained

• Ensure on a daily basis that packhouse workers adhere to company policy on packhouse hygiene as well as health and safety

• Ensure proper recording of daily grading is done and the packhouse performance is continuously improved.

• Ensure that all waste in the department is segregated and handled as per the procedure provided by the company on waste management.

Requirements

• A Degree/Diploma in Horticulture

• At least 4 years of experience in flower pack house management

• Computer literacy

• Excellent managerial, supervisory, and problem-solving skills

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Strong planning and leadership qualities 

• Organizing and coordination skills.
