About Elephant Bookings:


Elephant Bookings (EB) is an early stage SaaS start-up, created by the venture building team at Purple Elephant Ventures. 

 

EB was created to answer the following question: How can we help African safari lodges increase their direct bookings, growing revenue and owning their relationships with their customers as a result?

 

Elephant Bookings is a software-as-a-service business; we’re building a super easy-to-use platform with everything a lodge needs to acquire and manage direct bookings. Our system also integrates with traditional agent bookings, making it a one-stop solution for lodges booking needs.

 

The Role:


You will become a significant equity partner in Elephant Bookings, a co-founder of the business, the CEO and the first full time employee at Elephant Booking. You will hire the team around you, lead corporate strategy and company vision, lead the fundraising activities and build conviction with customers and investors alike. You will manage all aspects of Elephant Bookings while getting all the support you need from Purple Elephant Ventures to ensure the business is a huge success. 


Purple Elephant Ventures has developed the basic business roadmap, tested the market and has onboarded EB’s first few clients. The incoming CEO will be expected to lead the business from where PEV has developed it. We expect the business scope and strategy to evolve under the new leadership.  Very broadly, the CEO will take charge of the product roadmap, business model, operating plan, HR plan and all aspects of the business, including fundraising, board management and legal functions. The PEV team will support in the early going, but aims to slowly reduce its involvement until, approximately six months after the CEO is hired, it removes itself entirely.

What we are looking for:


We are looking for an exceptional entrepreneur, specifically:

A leader who is smart enough to lead a start-up to success but humble enough to build a team around them that is smarter than they are;

A product manager who ensures that great technology is built; 

A salesperson who can grow their customer base;

A social media marketer who can build a team to help client with their campaign;

A data analyst who can build a team to understand what drives sales;

A hustler who will work day and night and never give up until successful.


Someone who will take the responsibility of planning and (re)defining our product:

A product manager who has previously overseen the build of a Saas product;

A product manager who has the ability to analyze the competition and understand how their product can stand out from the crowd.


A commercially minded leader who will continue to refine our commercial model. 

Develop and maintain a Lean/Agile startup culture maturing with scale, and foster a high level of employee motivation, performance, and commitment.

Someone to lead fundraising activities in the next 6 months.


The position requires:


There is no real experience requirement here - successful entrepreneurs have all sorts of backgrounds; young or old, experienced or not. 

However, entrepreneurs must be hungry, thrive in ambiguity, be great communicators, have a keen sense for talent, understand how to manage risk and have a psychological thirst to own their own work. 

Specifically for EB, ideally (but not necessarily) the CEO will understand how marketing and sales departments of Safari camps work.

The CEO must understand and be able to lead a SasS product company.

Regardless of all above, the successful candidate must have deep hunger to solve the problems of Africa’s tourism industry,  in this case specifically to improve the bookings process of safari lodges.

 

Expected Start Date: ASAP.

 

Job Location: African tourism hotspot, ideally but not necessarily in Nairobi, Kenya. With some travel expected.

 

Expected Remuneration:


As a partner, your initial compensation will be largely equity based. In addition to an ESOP package, you will also receive a small salary that you will help determine as part of the businesses budgeting exercise. 


You will also be expected to make a small investment into the company; the size of the investment will depend on your financial situation. Whoever runs the company needs to be ALL IN! This is not a job - it’s a marriage. Purple Elephant Ventures has put substantial skin-in-the-game and we expect our partners to do the same (as much as they can).
