ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER

 

Job Summary

This role is pivotal in promoting a good work environment. The incumbent focal point will be to ensure adherence to all occupational health and safety guidelines and regulations, train employees on safety policies and practices to ensure a safe workplace.

 Duties and Responsibilities

1.     Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.

2.     Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations and compliance in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.

3.     Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations as well as updating the site HIRA.

4.     Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented.

5.     Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities.

6.     Co-ordinate the development of health & safety policies, systems of work and procedures.

7.     Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained.

8.     Establish a full programme of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks.

9.     Establish a structured programme of health & safety training throughout the Company.

10.  Liaise with external health & safety consultants in the provision of training programmes and health and safety services.

11.  Manage and devise the agenda for, chair and formulate & distribute minutes for the Health & Safety Committee meetings. Ensure that all agreed action points are completed within deadlines.

12.  Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.

13.  Provide regular reports to the Human Resources Manager, Senior Management Team on relevant health and safety activities.

14.  Participate in monthly meetings when required to report on relevant health & safety matters.

15.  Provide PPE to all employees exposed to hazards.

16.  Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.

17.  Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained at a top notch within the organization.

18.  Standardization of all HSE matters across all the Cargen branches.

19.  Keep abreast on changes pertaining health and safety in the country and notifying employees in good time on the precautionary measures, documentations process to mitigate the same.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree/ Masters degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required;
  • At least Five years of related experience preferred.
  • Exposure in handling EHS in an automotive industry or manufacturing industry.

·       Must portray high level of integrity

·       Firm grasp of modern management skills and tactics

 

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software.
