Junior AccountantJob Purpose: Talent Grid Africa, on behalf of our esteemed client in the Food Manufacturing industry, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join their team.
The Junior Accountant will support the finance function through accurate and timely processing of accounting transactions.
The successful candidate will focus on day-to-day execution across receivables, payables, cash and reconciliations.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise and post customer invoices in line with approved documentation.
- Allocate customer receipts accurately and on a timely basis.
- Prepare and send customer statements as per agreed schedules.
- Support follow-up on outstanding balances based on guidance from the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.
- Maintain accurate customer master data in the accounting system.
- Validate supplier invoices against approved supporting documents.
- Post supplier invoices accurately into the accounting system.
- Allocate supplier payments correctly.
- Respond to supplier queries and escalate discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain accurate supplier master data.
- Prepare bank reconciliations within agreed timelines.
- Maintain petty cash records and supporting documentation.
- Review and process staff expense claims in line with policy.
- Investigate and escalate unreconciled or unusual items promptly.
- Assist with month end close activities as per the close checklist.
- Prepare reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts.
- Support preparation of schedules required for management review.
- Assist with audit and statutory requests by providing accurate documentation.
- Ensure all transactions are supported by approved source documents.
- Maintain clear and complete audit trails for all postings.
- Escalate control breaches or data integrity issues promptly.
- File and archive financial records in line with retention policies.
- Adhere to internal controls, finance SOPs, and statutory requirements.
- Respond to internal finance related queries professionally and on time.
- Support other finance tasks aligned to the role, as assigned by the Finance Manager.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least CPA Part II and professional accounting qualification.
- 1-2 years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Solid reconciliation and transaction processing skills.
- Ability to handle high transaction volumes consistently.
