Manager - Environment, Sustainability & Occupational, Health and Safety (ESG & OHS)

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. POSITION TITLE: Manager - Environment, Sustainability & Occupational, Health and Safety (ESG & OHS)

2. REPORTS TO: GROUP HEAD OF HUMAN CAPITAL 

3. BASIC FUNCTION

This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating all Environmental, Sustainability, and OSHA activities to ensure compliance with all relevant statutory, company, and Quality Management Systems requirements. The incumbent shall lead, and execute projects related to ESG and OSH matters. Concerning Quality Management System, take the role of Management Representative and lead the audits.

4. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

a) Continuous evaluation of the company's internal and external activities, policies, and procedures in a QHSE context 

b) Develop, implement, and review the QHSE controls, policies, procedures, and systems to improve environmental performance and reduce environmental impact (e.g. GHG emissions, social investment, etc).

c) Liaise with internal and external stakeholders about QHSE matters, keep abreast of the changes, and advise the management of anticipated changes and impacts.  

d) Carry out sensitization and training of employees on ESG, OSHA policies and Quality Management System matters

e) Measures the effectiveness of the QHSE through audits (post, internal, etc.) and through supervision of the implementation of identified measures.

f) Develop the budget for QHSE with the management; Identify requirements and initiate procurement requests for QHSE materials or resources

g) Prepare, coordinate, and take the lead on various statutory and quality management and surveillance audits e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 45001, etc.

h) Investigate, document, report, and recommend corrective action plans for any QHSE incidents arising 

i) Work with country offices to provide support for the QHSE roles in those respective regions and to provide technical assistance to help them find solutions to comply with standards as required

j) Draft reports and assessments for management, staff, and third parties as part of the QHSE reporting process.

k) Handle other projects, duties, and responsibilities as assigned

5. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND KNOWLEDGE 

a) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, environmental science, or business-related field 

b) Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial production or QHSE risk management 

c) Operational knowledge with solid experience working with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001

d) Knowledge of relevant Kenyan and East African regulations 

e) DOSH and NEMA certification. Professional affiliation to SHEQ from a recognized institution will be an added advantage

f) Experience in the automotive or related sector will be an added advantage
