Role Description
Deliverables
Review the existing policies and measures and update them according to legislation ensuring that the company has the relevant licences and adequate insurance covers
Compliant HSE Policies and procedures, licenses and insurance covers.
Assessing risks and possible safety hazards of all aspects of operations and recommend mitigating actions. Participate in detailed incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
HSE Risk audit documentation with mitigation measures.
Drive staffs’ compliance with HSE by ensuring they wear all required safety equipment and encourage safe working practices and enforce corrective action in case of non-compliance.
100% HSE staff compliance
Timely reporting of all workplace related accidents to the DOSH office and ensure timely preparation, submission and follow-up on the compensation claims.
HSE reporting and compensation standards compliance.
HSE Staff awareness through continuous innovative education programs and trainings on safety and health for employees including statutory trainings
Monthly HSE staff awareness training programs reports.
Liaise with law enforcement, and other investigators who may be present at the time of serious accidents
Investigations of non-fatal accident to be completed within three days and for fatal accidents, within twenty-four hours.
Identify, vet and recommend authorized Health and safety, NEMA Auditors to carry out Annual Health and Safety and Environmental audits.
Assist in compliance reviews, general risk assessments and other safety assessments to support Health, Safety and Environmental management;
Annual Audits to be completed by 31st January of the same year
Maintain relevant HSE logs and documentation as well as prepare applicable HSE reports as necessary.
Monthly HSE reports and proper documentation.
To be the Secretary to the Health and Safety Committee and ensure compliance to the HSE regulations.
Minutes of HSE committee meetings with relevant action plans.
ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Production Technology, Chemistry or Environmental Science.
- Professional qualification in HSE.
- Training in Fire risk reduction and OHS law and management
RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience of three years as Safety Officer in a busy manufacturing or construction environment
- Experience in dealing with relevant external authorities
- Experience in implementation of Health and Safety management systems; Kaizen, OSHA
- In depth knowledge of relevant legislation. i.e. OSHA, NEMA, WIBA, Nairobi County by-laws. Etc.
- Experience in driving HSE performance of an organization to minimize risks, maximize opportunities and enhance reputation.
- Practical experience in HSE regulations and the use of formal HSE risk assessments.
- Experience in delivering workplace HSE training.
