Key Responsibilities

Yield Improvement

  • Actively drive yield improvement and land productivity across all Savannah Seritech plantations, through optimized planting density, irrigation, pruning, and nutrient management.
  • Manage the scaling of our plantations from 10 to 50+ acres over the next year without compromising yield.
  • Identify and grow new varieties of mulberry most suitable for yield and product quality targets.

Mulberry Management & Nutrition

  • Develop and oversee protocols for mulberry propagation, planting, pruning, irrigation, pest/disease control, and nutrient management.
  • Establish soil testing and nutrient replenishment schedules (organic manure, compost, biofertilizers, etc.) to improve soil fertility and plant vigor.

Field Operations & Team Leadership

  • Manage field agronomy teams and supervise daily plantation activities across Savannah Seritech sites.
  • Keep records on and track performance of plantation yield per acre, leaf protein %, pest incidence, and other plant health factors.
  • Collaborate closely with silkworm rearing teams to synchronize feed availability, quality, and supply chain logistics.

Farmer Integration & Training

  • Develop training materials and farmer support programs to ensure consistent mulberry quality across partner farms.
  • Support the design and rollout of outgrower models for smallholder inclusion.

Research, Innovation & Sustainability

  • Partner with research institutions (e.g., KALRO, KEPHIS, CSB India) to test improved mulberry varieties and sustainable agronomic practices.
  • Contribute to regenerative agriculture initiatives, including soil carbon enhancement, intercropping systems, and biodiversity restoration.
  • Identify and pilot technologies that improve monitoring (e.g., drone mapping, multispectral imaging for leaf health).

Budgeting & Reporting

  • Prepare and manage annual agronomy budgets and procurement plans.
  • Track and report monthly progress on yield, feed quality, and site productivity.

Requirements

  • Mulberry cultivation experience with proven success managing commercial-scale plantations or farmer networks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agroforestry, Plant Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in plantation management, crop nutrition, or agroforestry (experience with perennial crops required).
  • Strong understanding of soil fertility management, plant physiology, and nutrient analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in yield improvement programs, agronomic trials, and performance monitoring.
  • Hands-on leadership experience managing large teams and farm operations.
  • Familiarity with sustainable or regenerative agriculture practices.
  • Proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets and digital farm management tools.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Passion for climate-positive agriculture and smallholder impact.
