Job summary
The Mulberry Agronomy & Nutrition Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and scaling best-in-class agronomic practices for mulberry cultivation. This role combines deep technical expertise in soil health, plant nutrition, and agroforestry with strong field management and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Yield Improvement
- Actively drive yield improvement and land productivity across all Savannah Seritech plantations, through optimized planting density, irrigation, pruning, and nutrient management.
- Manage the scaling of our plantations from 10 to 50+ acres over the next year without compromising yield.
- Identify and grow new varieties of mulberry most suitable for yield and product quality targets.
Mulberry Management & Nutrition
- Develop and oversee protocols for mulberry propagation, planting, pruning, irrigation, pest/disease control, and nutrient management.
- Establish soil testing and nutrient replenishment schedules (organic manure, compost, biofertilizers, etc.) to improve soil fertility and plant vigor.
Field Operations & Team Leadership
- Manage field agronomy teams and supervise daily plantation activities across Savannah Seritech sites.
- Keep records on and track performance of plantation yield per acre, leaf protein %, pest incidence, and other plant health factors.
- Collaborate closely with silkworm rearing teams to synchronize feed availability, quality, and supply chain logistics.
Farmer Integration & Training
- Develop training materials and farmer support programs to ensure consistent mulberry quality across partner farms.
- Support the design and rollout of outgrower models for smallholder inclusion.
Research, Innovation & Sustainability
- Partner with research institutions (e.g., KALRO, KEPHIS, CSB India) to test improved mulberry varieties and sustainable agronomic practices.
- Contribute to regenerative agriculture initiatives, including soil carbon enhancement, intercropping systems, and biodiversity restoration.
- Identify and pilot technologies that improve monitoring (e.g., drone mapping, multispectral imaging for leaf health).
Budgeting & Reporting
- Prepare and manage annual agronomy budgets and procurement plans.
- Track and report monthly progress on yield, feed quality, and site productivity.
Requirements
- Mulberry cultivation experience with proven success managing commercial-scale plantations or farmer networks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agroforestry, Plant Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in plantation management, crop nutrition, or agroforestry (experience with perennial crops required).
- Strong understanding of soil fertility management, plant physiology, and nutrient analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in yield improvement programs, agronomic trials, and performance monitoring.
- Hands-on leadership experience managing large teams and farm operations.
- Familiarity with sustainable or regenerative agriculture practices.
- Proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets and digital farm management tools.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Passion for climate-positive agriculture and smallholder impact.
