JOB TITLE:PEST CONTROL TECHNICIAN

NATURE OF JOB: FULL TIME

SALARY:KSHS.32,000-45,000

JOB LOCATION:MOGADISHU AIRPORT, (GREEN ZONE)


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Site Inspection and Pest Identification

  • Conduct routine inspections across various zones of the airport facility, including indoor and outdoor areas, storage units, food service areas, accommodation blocks, and drainage systems.
  • Identify signs of pest infestation, such as droppings, damage to materials, nests, or tracks, and determine the type and extent of pest presence (e.g., rodents, cockroaches, termites, flies, mosquitoes, etc.).
  • Use knowledge of pest biology and behavior to trace sources and breeding grounds.


Implementation of Pest Control Measures

  • Select and apply appropriate pest control methods including mechanical, chemical, biological, and cultural strategies based on site assessment and pest type.
  • Safely handle and apply pesticides, rodenticides, and insecticides using sprayers, baiting systems, fogging machines, or fumigation equipment.
  • Use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices to minimize environmental and human impact.


Monitoring and Follow-Up

  • Install and maintain monitoring devices such as traps, bait stations, and insect light traps to evaluate pest activity levels.
  • Perform follow-up treatments and site visits as needed to ensure pest elimination and prevent reinfestation.
  • Update treatment schedules based on seasonal trends, pest life cycles, and infestation severity.


Recordkeeping and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, findings, treatment plans, chemical usage, and follow-up actions.
  • Generate reports for supervisors or client representatives on pest activity trends, effectiveness of control measures, and recommended improvements.
  • Document and log all chemical applications in compliance with environmental safety regulations and internal audit requirements.


Compliance and Chemical Safety

  • Ensure all pest control operations adhere to national and international safety and environmental regulations.
  • Store, label, and dispose of chemicals in accordance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and company protocols.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and consistently during chemical applications.


Infrastructure and Environmental Assessment

  • Identify structural defects or sanitation issues (e.g., water leaks, food waste, poor waste management) contributing to pest problems and recommend corrective actions.
  • Liaise with maintenance teams to coordinate sealing of cracks, repair of screens, or adjustment of ventilation that could reduce pest entry.


Equipment Maintenance and Calibration

  • Clean, maintain, and calibrate pest control equipment (e.g., foggers, sprayers, traps) to ensure operational readiness and accuracy.
  • Monitor inventory of tools, chemicals, and supplies, and report needs for replenishment or equipment repair.


Emergency Response and Rapid Intervention

  • Respond promptly to urgent pest complaints or outbreak situations with immediate investigation and containment actions.
  • Develop and execute rapid pest control interventions to avoid disruption to operations or health risks.


KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Entomology, Environmental Science, or a related field. Equivalent certification in Pest Management will be considered
  • Minimum 5 years of proven, hands-on experience in pest control operations,
  • preferably in high-security or sensitive environments (e.g., embassies, airports, military bases)
  • In-depth understanding of pest biology, habitat, and behaviour
  • Proficient in chemical pest control methods, integrated pest management (IPM), and the safe use of pesticides
  • Knowledge of international safety standards and environmental regulations related to pest control
